Provisional Tennessee State Wildlife Action Plan (TN-SWAP) terrestrial habitat priorities versus results of the population growth model developed by the Tennessee Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, 2008, converted to percent projected developed landcover in the year 2040. Spatial growth model was developed using population growth projections from the University of Tennessee Center for Business and Economic Research (UT-CBER), county urban growth boundaries, 2000 census blocks, and various ancillary datasets.
The goal of the Northwest Basin and Range (NWBR) Synthesis project is to synthesize existing landscape planning and science and develop a shared conservation vision for stakeholders in the region. This webinar provides an overview of the NWBR Synthesis’ work to identify shared conservation priorities, including: - The Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation framework - How the NWBR is using the framework to synthesize current landscape planning and science - How experts will vet this process

The objective of this preliminary modeling effort was to prepare a single HexSimPLE model for the Northern Basin Pygmy rabbit population within the geographic extent of the Northwest Basin and Range landscape (Figure 1, https://www.fws.gov/science/catalog range). Population parameters derived from the literature and reviewed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) refuges team were used to populate a simplified individual- based model (IBM) platform to develop a reasonable yet simplistic representation of pygmy rabbit movement, habitat use, and population dynamics in this landscape. This research project identified effective landowner engagement strategies and incentives to sustain ecosystem services (e.g., clean water, biodiversity, wildlife habitat, recreation, aesthetics) in the Southeastern United States through a focused case in three major habitat types (bottomland hardwoods, open pine stands, and grasslands) within the Gulf Coastal Plains and Ozarks region. A geospatial analysis was used to quantify program participation and expected costs for selected landowner engagement scenarios and program delivery options.
The Northwestern Great Basin ecoregion is one of the most intact ecosystems in the west as well as a biological hotspot. However, altered fire regimes, invasive species, water scarcity, development and climate change threaten the integrity of this landscape. Several efforts are ongoing for individual species, specific threats or sub-geographies, and over 60 existing plans and assessments have been identified for the region. The Nature’s Stage Climate Mapper allows users to explore the geoclimatic stability of HUC5 watersheds within the Pacific Northwest.Geoclimatic Stability, as defined here, is a measure of a natural system’s capacity to remain stable as the climate changes over time. There are more and more researchers in the North who want their work to benefit northerners, and wonder if their results are relevant to the communities they work near or with. This project reviewed five climate adaptation plans written in the Yukon over the past decade and conducted interviews focusing on the Dawson Climate Change Adaptation plan. The report outlines several barriers to incorporating climate research in the plans: a perception of climate change research, relevance and accessibility of research, communication, educational history, and human chemistry. The report does not evaluate plan implementation or effectiveness, but focused on the mechanisms of research uptake.
