Water resources data for the 2002 water year for Alaska consist of records of stage, discharge, and water quality of streams; stages of lakes; and water levels and water quality of ground water. This volume contains records for water discharge at 109 gaging stations; stage or contents only at 5 gaging stations; water quality at 26 gaging stations; and water levels for 45 observation wells. Also included are data for 32 crest-stage partial-record stations. Additional water data were collected at various sites not involved in the systematic data-collection program and are published as miscellaneous measurements and analyses. Some data collected during 2002 will be published in subsequent reports. These data represent...

This volume of the annual hydrologic data report of Alaska is one of a series of annual reports that document hydrologic data gathered from the U.S. Geological Survey's surface- and ground- water data-collection networks in each state, Puerto Rico, and the Trust Territories. These records of stream flow, ground-water levels, and water quality provide the hydrologic information needed by state, local, and Federal agencies, and the private sector for developing and managing our Nation's land and water resources.

These heatmaps show a top 3 stressor or service, as ranked by participants, and the concentration of participants who reported as working in each municipality or county who also voted for that stressor or service across the landscape. This map shows the percentage of participants from each county and municipality who ranked Availability of Water as a top 3 ecosystem service that could benefit from collaborative conservation in their region. Symbology represents the percentage of participants with 0% = dark green, 0.0001 % - 24.99% = light green, 25% - 49.99% = yellow, 50% - 74.99% = orange, 75% - 100% = red. All counties and municipalities identified by participants as areas where they work were given a tally for...

The Yukon River Inter-Tribal Watershed Council and the U.S. Geological Survey developed a water-quality monitoring program to address a shared interest in the water quality of the Yukon River and its relation to climate. This report contains water-quality data from samples collected in the Yukon River Basin during water years 2006 through 2008. A broad range of chemical analyses from 44 stations throughout the YRB are presented. On August 8, 2009 the USGS signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Yukon River Inter-Tribal Watershed Council representing the culmination of 5 years of dedicated efforts to forge a working collaboration and partnership with expectations of continuing into the foreseeable future. The...

OVERVIEW This report contains water-quality data collected from 84 sites in Tanana River basin during water years 2004 through 2006 (October 2003 through September 2006) as part of a cooperative study between the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) Alaska Monitoring and Assessment Program (AKMAP), supported in part through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Office of Water, Cooperative Assistance Agreement X7-97078801. A broad range of chemical analyses are presented for 93 sets of samples collected at 59 tributaries to the Tanana River and at 25 locations along the mainstem. These data are to provide a means to assess baseline characteristics and...

Water Resource boundaries were created by reselecting arcs from the 1:100,000 TIGER county coverage. Information came from an ascii file provided by DNRC, "Water Resources Division Regional Offices." For more information, see /gis2/montwork/cmp/94/94nris172d.aml

The headwaters of the John River are located near the village of Anaktuvuk Pass in the central Brooks Range of interior Alaska. With the recent construction of a water-supply system and a wastewater-treatment plant, most homes in Anaktuvuk Pass now have modern water and wastewater systems. The effluent from the treatment plant discharges into a settling pond near a tributary of the John River. The headwaters of the John River are adjacent to Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve, and the John River is a designated Wild River. Due to the concern about possible water-quality effects from the wastewater effluent, the hydrology of the John River near Anaktuvuk Pass was studied from 2002 through 2003. Three...

Ground-water and surface-water (GW/SW) interactions account for most of the dynamic ground-water variation in the Fort Wainwright area. GW/SW interactions control vertical water-table changes, changing flow directions, and reversing vertical flow gradients. Environmental investigations frequently need to address varying rates and directions of contaminant movement related to the relative locations of the Chena and Tanana Rivers. Our investigation efforts are providing U.S. Army Alaska (USARAK), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Alaska District (COE), and their contractors insight into these critical processes. Our project data and reports are presented in the below tables and links. Please contact us with any questions....

Problem - The demand for water in New York State is unevenly distributed. Because increasing competition for local supplies could lead to shortages, it is expedient to know how and where water is withdrawn, delivered, and used. There are many dimensions to water-use issues, and all should be considered to develop a full understanding of the use and delivery of water in the State. In order to apply water-use information to problems of water-demand management, many data elements need to be collected and stored in a convenient location and format. The categories of water use most commonly considered include public-water supply, domestic, thermoelectric power generation, industrial, irrigation and, to a lesser degree,...

A major focus of the NAWQA Program in its second decade (2002-2013) is on regional- and national-scale assessments of groundwater-quality status and trends in principal aquifers. The U.S. Geological Survey Office of Groundwater has identified 62 principal aquifers in the U.S. (U.S. Geological Survey, 2003). About 1/3 of the Nation's principal aquifers are the focus of water-quality assessments at the regional scale by NAWQA. The NAWQA framework for principal aquifer assessments considers the physical setting of the aquifer, in addition to its susceptibility and vulnerability to contamination. The article focuses on Alaska's water transportation which Alaska depends on in hauling bulk cargo like oil or coal out of the state and brining in freight ranging from refrigerated containers of lettuce to drill rigs. It provides the history of Alaska's water transportation and the increased commercialization of the Yukon River following the transfer of Alaska from Russia. It indicates that Alaska's mines and oil rely on water transportation to get their materials to market.

This dataset contains a representation of developed lands projected to occur in the Alternative 2070 scenario from the Florida 2070 project. Florida 2070 and its companion project Water 2070 were a joint effort of 1000 Friends of Florida, the University of Florida's GeoPlan Center and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The work was completed in December 2016. Florida 2070 produced three land use/population distribution scenarios Baseline 2010, Trend 2070 and Alternative 2070. The two 2070 scenarios are based on a population projection derived from data produced by the Florida Bureau of Economic and Business Research. This projection suggests approximately 15 million more people will live...

Available water supply (AWS) is the total volume of water (in centimeters) that should be available to plants when the soil, inclusive of rock fragments, is at field capacity. AWS is calculated as the available water capacity times the thickness of each soil horizon to a specified depth (25 cm). The composition of the each component in the map unit is recorded as a percentage. A composition of 60 indicates that the component typically makes an approcimately 60 percent of the the map unit. A weighted average aggregation method of all component values was computed, with percent composition as the weighing factor. The dataset was derived from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service...
