Purpose

The Borderlands Research Institute conducted an ecosystem stressor ranking exercise with conservation professionals in working in the Chihuahuan Desert. Each participant ranked the stressors that they saw as the top 3 facing 4 categories of stresses (habitat fragmentation and loss, ecosystem functionality, invasive and problematic plants, invasive animals) to 3 ecosystems (grasslands, riparian, montane/woodlands). The participants also identified counties and municipalities within the geography where they focused their conservation work. The percentage of participants from each county that ranked each stressor as a top 3 stressor was then placed on a map, symbolized by concentration of participants that ranked each stressor as a top 3, to illustrate on a landscape scale where each stressor was most problematic. These CSV files contain the stressor names, county/municipality names, and percentage of participants from each county/municipality that chose each stressor as a top 3 in that category. These CSV files were joined by county/municipality name to county/municipality shapefiles to create the symbolized heatmap layer files in this folder.
