Summary

An FY17 NGGDPP grant funded a demolition project to rescue of 1952+ core boxes from a collapsed building, the Cary Annex. The OTHER Undocumented Core Collections (OUCC) defined herein helps compile the interim results of an inventory of 781 of the 1952+ rescued boxes, funded by an FY21 NGGDPP grant. As a result of the inventory, 277 core boxes were identified that are associated with 63 new, previously undocumented boreholes. All of the boxes were damaged and likely need reboxing; 85 were reboxed by NCGS staff. Some of the core boxes have partial losses of core lengths; some material is weathered in situ (in the box). Purpose

Provide status of rescued core boxes, removed from the collapsed Cary Annex during a demolition operation.

Rights

Normally, the public has access to NCGS's core collections. However, until the inventory of all 1952+ boxes of core rescued from the Cary Annex are sorted, inventoried and assessed for damage, it will not be easy to access this collection. In addition, coordinate data is not available for all the new borehole records.
