Summary
Petrophysical data were collected in the eastern Adirondack Highlands during several field campaigns in 2016-2017. This data release provides magnetic susceptibility, gamma spectrometry, and density measurements on rock outcrops, hand samples, and during walking surveys. Rock types for the outcrops and samples were identified using standard field methods. Locations of the outcrops or samples were determined using a handheld GPS.

These data were collected to support projects in the USGS Mineral Resources Program and the USGS National Cooperative Mapping Program. They may be used as ground truth information for the interpretation of airborne or ground geophysical survey data (Shah, 2016). The region is of interest because of the presence of magnetite-apatite deposits which contain both iron and rare earth elements (REEs). REEs are considered a critical mineral resource.
