High-resolution multichannel minisparker, multichannel boomer and chirp seismic-reflection data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey and the University of Washington in February of 2017 west of Seattle in Puget Sound and in Lake Washington, Washington. Data were collected aboard University of Washington’s R/V Clifford A. Barnes during USGS field activity 2017-612-FA. Sub-bottom acoustic penetration spans several hundreds of meters and is variable by location. Data were collected to characterize recent deformation and estimate earthquake recurrence on the Seattle Fault zone. These data and information are intended for science researchers, students from elementary through college, policy makers, and general...
Landslides have been mapped offshore of Southern California. Polygons were mapped from visual interpretation of high-resolution multibeam echosounder data (MBES), single-beam echosounder data, and seismic reflection data.

This data release provides the locations and certain key metrics of landslide features offshore southern California, including landslide perimeters, scarps, evacuation zones, debris aprons, and slide-prone areas in geographic information system (GIS) shapefile format. The offshore region of southern California is a tectonically active area that includes more than 20 fault-bounded basins and ridges that are subject to various types of mass-wasting and landslide processes. The collection of high-resolution seafloor mapping data offshore southern California, mostly within the last 25 years, provide a new data set that forms the basis for the identification and mapping of landslides and slide-related features throughout...

Landslide evacuation zones, which represent the areas from which material is removed by landslide processes, have been mapped offshore of Southern California. Polygons were mapped from visual interpretation of high-resolution multibeam echosounder data (MBES) and single-beam echosounder data.

In February 2016 the University of Washington in cooperation with the U.S. Geological Survey, Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center (USGS, PCMSC) collected multibeam bathymetry and acoustic-backscatter data in and near the Catalina Basin, southern California aboard the University of Washington's Research Vessel Thomas G. Thompson. Data was collected using a Kongsberg EM300 multibeam echosounder hull-mounted to the 274-foot R/V Thomas G. Thompson. The USGS, PCMSC processed these data and produced a series of bathymetric surfaces and acoustic-backscatter images for scientific research purposes. This data release provides a 10-m resolution bathymetry surface and a 10-m resolution acoustic backscatter image. In...

High-resolution chirp sub-bottom data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey and the University of Washington in February of 2017 west of Seattle in Puget Sound and in Lake Washington, Washington. Data were collected aboard the University of Washington’s R/V Clifford A. Barnes during USGS field activity 2017-612-FA using an Edgetech SB-512i sub-bottom profiler. Sub-bottom acoustic penetration spans several tens of meters and is variable by location.
High-resolution multichannel boomer seismic-reflection data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey and the University of Washington in February of 2017 east of Seattle in Lake Washington, Washington. Data were collected aboard University of Washington’s R/V Clifford A. Barnes during USGS field activity 2017-612-FA using an Applied Acoustics triple plate S-Boom sound source and recorded on a 24 channel Geometrics digital hydrophone streamer. Sub-bottom acoustic penetration spans several hundreds of meters and is variable by location.
A comprehensive map of Quaternary faults has been generated for offshore of California. The Quaternary fault map includes mapped geometries and attribute information for offshore fault systems located in California State and Federal waters. The polyline shapefile and matching KML file have been compiled from previously published mapping where relatively dense, high-resolution marine geophysical data exist. The data are accompanied by a PDF containing citations for the compiled source data. Most of the marine geophysical data used for mapping have been processed, merged, and released by the USGS in maps, data releases, and journal publications in support of the California Seafloor Mapping Program and the U.S. West...

High-resolution multichannel minisparker seismic-reflection data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey and the University of Washington in February of 2017 west of Seattle in Puget Sound and in Lake Washington, Washington. Data were collected aboard University of Washington’s R/V Clifford A. Barnes during USGS field activity 2017-612-FA using a 500 Joule SIG 2-mille minisparker sound source and recorded on a 48 channel Geometrics digital hydrophone streamer. Sub-bottom acoustic penetration spans several hundreds of meters and is variable by location.
The USGS Powell Center Cascadia earthquake hazards working group compiled published onshore and offshore paleoseismic data along the Cascadia subduction zone, spanning sites from Vancouver Island to the Mendocino triple junction. Evidence for megathrust rupture includes coastal land-level change, tsunami inundation, onshore shaking proxies such as landslides or liquefaction, and offshore shaking proxies such as marine turbidites. The quality of paleoseismic data for megathrust rupture along the Cascadia subduction zone collected over the past three decades varies because analytical capabilities and data collection methodologies have evolved. Thus, as part of the compilation, we also present a ranking scheme to assess...
