In cooperation with Dallas Water Utilities (DWU), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) measures nutrient and major-ion concentrations in selected reservoirs in north Texas. This data release documents water-quality data obtained from Ray Hubbard Lake, Grapevine Lake, Ray Roberts Lake, and Lake Lewisville during water years 2016-20. In addition to nutrient and major-ion concentrations, water-quality field properties and other selected constituents measured in the water-quality samples collected from these reservoirs are documented. The study began in water year 2016 (WY16) with monthly sampling of Ray Hubbard Lake. A water year is defined as the 12-month period from October 1 through September 30 and is designated...

For more than 100 years, the Permian Basin has been an important source of oil and gas produced from conventional reservoirs; directional drilling combined with hydraulic fracturing has greatly increased production in the past 10 years to the extent that the Permian Basin is becoming one of the world’s largest continuous oil and gas (COG) producing fields (U.S. Energy Information Administration, 2020). These recent techniques extract oil and gas by directionally drilling and hydraulically fracturing the surrounding reservoir rock. The extraction of COG by using these techniques requires large volumes of water and estimates of the total water volume used in COG require a comprehensive assessment to determine the...

This data release contains waterborne self-potential (SP) logging data measured during 48 laboratory experiments and three field experiments that were performed to develop an efficient, accurate method for detecting (in the laboratory) and geolocating (in the field) focused vertical groundwater discharge (surface-water gains) and recharge (surface-water losses) in a river. The experimental procedures and results are described and interpreted in a companion journal article titled "Remote detection of focused groundwater/surface-water exchange in rivers using waterborne self-potential logging: Laboratory and field experiments," and are similar to waterborne SP logging data measured, modeled, and interpreted by Ikard...

A comprehensive study of water quality in two streams was conducted in the Midwestern United States in 1999 to 2003. The Iroquois River and Sugar Creek, located in northwestern Indiana and northeastern Illinois have been heavily impacted by agricultural land use and contain relatively high concentrations of inorganic nitrogen, primarily as nitrate. As part of that study, samples were collected and analyzed for dissolved methane and nitrous oxide concentrations to determine greenhouse gas (GHG) concentrations in the streams and the relation of GHG concentrations to concentrations of other inorganic nitrogen species in the water. These data are the results of that study. The data include GHG and nutrient samples collected...
