Note: this data release has been superseded by version 2.0, available here: https://doi.org/10.5066/P92IJREV This dataset contains macroinvertebrate sampling data (weights) for wetlands in the Cottonwood Lake Study Area, Stutsman County, North Dakota.
This data release presents data that were collected as part of a larger effort to refine knowledge pertaining to the origin, composition, and seasonality of dissolved organic matter in lakes. This work was part of an international collaborative effort with the Global Lake Ecological Observatory Network (GLEON). Water samples were collected monthly during 2021 and shipped to GLEON for determination of dissolved organic matter. In conjunction with each monthly sample event, several water-quality variables and ice thickness were measured. Data from this collaborative study will be used to understand how the origin and composition of dissolved organic matter varies through time.

Sandhill cranes are a long-lived bird species found in wetland-rich landscapes across North America. This dataset includes locations of 5 cranes during a single autumn migration from their breeding areas in northeastern Asia and south through Alaska, central Canada, and the Great Plains. The migration ends in northern Texas and northern Mexico. These data were used as a case study to highlight the utility of a continuous-time movement model to characterize animal migration and networks.

The central Platte River Valley represents a key mid-latitude stopover. This dataset supports a contemporary analysis of spring migration phenology at the Platte River during 2001-2007. We recorded timing of sandhill crane arrivals and departures from the Platte River.

This data release contains four data sets. The data were collected in 1998 at Wind Cave National Park, ND, USA. The main data set comprises the list of plant species observed and includes the transect ID, transect number, plot number, plot size, vegetation type, and terrain type where each species was found. A second data set has the locations of the transects, along with their IDs which can be linked to the species list. A third data set lists the number of plant species recorded on each plot on each transect. This data set also lists plots that had zero species. The final data set is a list of nomenclature updates along with the currently accepted scientific names of these species.

This data record contains fitness data for Visher's buckwheat (Eriogonum visheri) for the years 2014, 2015 and 2017 at Badlands National Park, South Dakota, USA. These data include insect visitation, pollen deposited on stigmas, achene size and germination over three field seasons (two field seasons for germination: 2015 and 2017) in four populations (two populations in 2017).

Note: this data release has been superseded by version 2.0, available here: https://doi.org/10.5066/P9G8TM2S This dataset contains the number of captured individuals recorded for each amphibian species surveyed in all wetlands in the Cottonwood Lake Study Area, Stutsman County, North Dakota. While amphibians were the target of the surveys, reptiles (i.e., turtles, snakes) were also sometimes captured over the course of the surveys and are included in the data file.

We measured nesting rates and nesting success for a community of cavity-nesting bees across gradients of floral abundance, floral richness, and land-cover in the Prairie Pothole Region. Variables in this dataset include a unique transect identifier, a count of the occupied nests per transect, total floral species richness per transect, total floral stem abundance per transect, bee species richness, number of emerged adult bees per transect, and the proportion of those emerged bees which were female. In addition, there are land-cover measurements of the total area, in hectares, of grasslands, wetlands, and woodlands within 500m and 1500m of each transect. We binned land-covers from the 2019 National Agricultural...

These data were developed to support an effort to characterize migration strategies in the U.S. Great Plains and Canadian Prairies and to explore sources of heterogeneity in their migration strategy, including space use, timing, and performance. Data come from locations and other information related to 58 marked Whooping Cranes (Grus americana) from 2010–2016. These data represent basic information about migrations of marked whooping cranes, including dates of initiation and termination of migration, time in migration, distance of migration, number of stopover sites used, and other metrics. Also included are data related to individual sites used by whooping cranes during migration.

The whooping crane (Grus americana) is a bird species in North America currently protected under federal endangered species legislation in the United States and Canada. The only self-sustaining and wild population of whooping cranes nests in and around Wood Buffalo National Park near the provincial border of Northwest Territories and Alberta, Canada. Cranes from this population migrate through the Great Plains of North America and winter along the Gulf Coast of Texas at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge and surrounding lands. These data support efforts to delineate a migration corridor for this population that can be used for conservation planning activities, including targeting conservation, mitigation, and recovery...

This dataset is North American Breeding Bird Survey bird-count data for the routes and stops in North Dakota, USA, in which ten mixed-grass-prairie-endemic species occurred, as well as the mean habitat-quality ranking scores derived from applying the Habitat Quality Module of the Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Tradeoffs (InVEST) to spatial layers for landuse/landcover from the National Agricultural Statistics Survey, CRP from USDA, urban and road areas from US Census Bureau (Tiger/Line), and energy development from USGS. The bird-count data is the total sum of counts for the focal ten species; individual species counts are not part of the dataset.

Dataset contains locations of subsurface drainage (tile) permits in South Dakota obtained from County and Local Water Board records in South Dakota. The counties included in this dataset are: Brown, Deuel, Grant, Hamlin, Hanson, Kingsbury, Lake, McCook, Minnehaha, Moody, Roberts, Spink, and Turner. The date permits records were collected by this survey vary by county. Other counties in the eastern portion of the state not included in the preceeding list of counties either did not require a drainage permit or permit data was not available at the time of this survey. A majority of permits were collected as of January 2012. Two counties (Hanson and Minnehaha) were updated in December,2013. The permit location (in...

A study was conducted to assess the efficacy of drainage setbacks for limiting effects to wetlands in the Prairie Pothole Region, USA. Surface-water levels, along with primary components of the wetland water balance, were monitored at four wetland catchments over 3 years. During the second year of the study, subsurface drainage systems were installed in two of the wetland catchments using drainage setbacks, and the drainage discharge volumes were monitored. A catchment water-balance model also was used to assess the potential effect of subsurface drainage (i.e., reduced precipitation runoff) on wetland hydrology, and to assess the efficacy of drainage setbacks for mitigating these effects. These data directly support...
