Reliable peak-streamflow information is critical for proper design of stream-related infrastructure, such as bridges, and StreamStats provides a user-friendly interface to estimate peak flows (https://streamstats.usgs .gov/ss/). StreamStats develops these peak-flow estimates using basin characteristics for the entire contributing area to a user-selected point; however, infrastructure planners often need to estimate flows for an area downstream from a known control such as a reservoir release or a weir. This dataset was compiled in cooperation with the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) to provide a Geographic Information System (GIS) layer of filtered regulation points from the U.S. Army Corps Engineers...

This data set provides a polygon shapefile delineating relatively large, slow-moving (4-17 cm/year in the radar line-of-sight direction) landslides in the continental U.S. western coastal states (California, Oregon, and Washington). The polygons also are provided in a Google Earth .kmz file. Delineated landslides were identified from displacement signals captured by InSAR (Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar) interferograms of ALOS PALSAR (Advanced Land Observing Satellite; Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar) images between 2007 and 2011, and ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 images between 2015 and 2019. The ALOS PALSAR images utilized cover the three states entirely; the ALOS-2 PALSAR images utilized cover primarily...
This data release contains time series and plots summarizing mean monthly temperature and total monthly precipitation, runoff, and streamflow from the U.S. Geological Survey Monthly Water Balance Model at 115 National Wildlife Refuges within the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Mountain-Prairie Region (CO, KS, MT, NE, ND, SD, UT, and WY). The four variables are derived from two sets of statistically-downscaled general circulation models from 1951 through 2099. The three variables were summarized for comparison across four 19-year periods: historic (1951-1969), baseline (1981-1999), 2050 (2041-2059), and 2080 (2071-2089). For each refuge, mean monthly plots, seasonal box plots, and annual envelope plots were produced...

This data, grsg_lcp_ThiessenPoly_mst3, is one of five hierarchical delineations of greater sage-grouse population structure. The data represent Thiessen polygons of graph constructs (least-cost path minimum spanning tree [LCP-MST]) that defined our population structure of sage-grouse breeding sites in the western United States. This data was developed by applying dispersal and genetic rules to decompose the fully connected population structure (graph) into the product presented here. Understanding wildlife population structure and connectivity can help managers identify conservation strategies, as structure can facilitate the study of population changes and habitat connectivity can provide information on dispersal...

This dataset includes vertical velocity profiles and river discharge at cross section of interest where velocity measurements were taken on the Arkansas River at Parkdale, Colorado. Each profile contains measurements at various depths at the y-axis, which is the vertical in the cross-sectional profile where the maximum velocity (umax) occurs. These measurements were taken using a FlowTracker, FlowTracker2 ® instrument (FlowTracker2, 2020) when wading was possible; if wading was not possible, measurements were taken from a boat using an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) under stationary bed conditions. Data are presented in a comma separated value (CSV) file.
Closeness centrality (cc; grsg_lcp_closeness_centrality) measures the average length of the shortest path between the node and all other nodes in the graph. The more central a node, the closer it is to all other nodes and the more likely information/movements can flow to other nodes. Closeness is computed as one divided by the average path lengths from a node to its neighbors, which assumes that important nodes are close to other nodes. The data were defined from least-cost paths (LCPs) constructed into minimum spanning trees (MSTs). We identified a threshold of the cc normalized value (>0.047) where patterns of network connectivity occurred in our graph. The cc identified leks with the greatest number of shortest...

The betweenness (bc; grsg_lcp_betweenness_centrality) defines the importance of a node in a graph based on how many times it occurs in the shortest path between all pairs of nodes. In other words, a node is important if it is included in many shortest paths between other nodes because it serves as a bridge between different parts of the graph. The data were defined from least-cost paths (LCPs) constructed into minimum spanning trees (MSTs). The bc identified major corridors spanning the sage-grouse range where nodes had a larger number of connections with other nodes, reflecting regions where leks potentially play larger roles of sage-grouse continuity based on graph theory analytics. We identified a threshold of...

This dataset contains data collected during science flights using the drone-based QCam, which is a Doppler (velocity) radar designed to measure surface velocity and compute river discharge when channel bathymetry is known. Five science flights were conducted on the Arkansas River in Colorado and are presented as comma separated values (CSV) files.

This dataset is associated with a USGS publication "Assessment of Undiscovered Oil and Gas Resources in the Eagle Ford Group and Associated Cenomanian-Turonian Strata, U.S. Gulf Coast, Texas, 2018" and summarizes data generated by the author for the publication using IHS Harmony DeclinePlus software. Data includes average estimated ultimate recoveries per square mile for three continuous oil assessment units with location information. Data is derived from IHS Markit data. No proprietary information is contained in this release.

The American Tunnel, the Black Hawk mine, the Gold King mine, the Mogul mine, and the Red and Bonita mine are located in the Cement Creek watershed, tributary to the upper Animas River near Silverton, Colorado. All five sites have tunnels that drain groundwater from abandoned underground mine workings to the surface. This draining water has elevated concentrations of metals and degrades water quality in Cement Creek. Water quality (pH, and dissolved copper, manganese, and zinc concentrations) and discharge data were compiled from multiple sources to examine changes in these parameters through time. Copper, manganese, and zinc loads calculated from these data are included in the data files. Data are reported for...

We analyzed detection/non-detection data from acoustic surveys of bat species in Colorado during the summers of 2016 and 2017. The goal of this analysis is to create species distribution maps estimating the probability of occupancy across the state for each species. We fit a community occupancy model using both years of data from all the available species. Spatially explicit covariates were included to explain heterogeneity in the probabilities of occupancy and nightly covariates were used to model detection. We also allowed for spatial patterns in the probability of occupancy for each species in order to account for the ranges of many species including only a portion of Colorado. This is also useful for explaining...
