This data set includes geographic coordinates for both pre- and post-adjustment locations used to georectify orthoimagery and digital surface models derived from aerial imagery collected using unoccupied aerial systems (UAS) in October 2016. Georeferencing links are provided for each data type (color or multi-band imagery) and portion of the atoll sampled during different UAS missions. Orthoimagery and DSM derived from a given data set and area were georeferenced using the same set of points.
This data release includes sampling location data, field-collected wetland attribute data, field-collected water chemistry data, laboratory-processed water chemistry data (anions, cations, alkalinity, nutrients, chlorophyll a concentrations, dissolved organic carbon, and specific ultraviolet absorbance, pesticide concentrations), dry mass of adult aquatic insects emerging from the surface of the wetlands, taxonomic classifications of the insects collected, and whole-body pesticide concentrations for adult aquatic insects emerging from wadeable wetlands in cropland and grassland landscapes across a salinity/hydrology gradient (N = 14 wetlands in 2015, N = 15 wetlands in 2016). Sampling was completed in late spring,...

This data set includes a point cloud, digital surface model (DSM), and orthoimagery of Sand Island at Palmyra Atoll, USA. Products were generated from aerial images collected in October 2016 using Unoccupied Aerial Systems (UAS, or "drones") with a Ricoh GRII digital camera. Imagery was processed using structure-from-motion photogrammetry that generates a three dimensional point cloud (.las) by identifying pixels from multiple images representing the same object and calculating the x, y, and z coordinates of that object/pixel. Point cloud data were processed to create a 6.3 cm resolution DSM (.tif) of the uppermost reflective surface (i.e., data have not been filtered for vegetation classes or height). Finally,...

These datasets describe channel adjustments over a 60-year period to dams in the Missouri National Recreational River (MNRR), South Dakota and Nebraska. Datasets include a channel geometry analysis from cross-sections, banklines digitized and interpreted to predict future bank erosion sites from aerial photography, and models of floodplain inundation over a range of discharges. There are two MNRR segments, a 39-mile segment downstream from Fort Randall Dam, and a 59-mile segment downstream from Gavins Point Dam. Similar datasets were analyzed for each MNRR segment using similar methods.

Data describe designed environmental DNA (eDNA) experiments for the estimation of eDNA shedding rates for the spectaclecase (Cumberlandia monodonta), mucket (Actinonaias ligamentina), and fatmucket (Lampsilis siliquoidea) from water samples collected in the laboratory under differing laboratory conditions. Shedding rates were tested under variable mussel biomass, diet, and temperature. Parameters described include descriptions of laboratory collected water samples that were tested to estimate concentration of spectaclecase, mucket or fatmucket DNA qPCR results, and associated quality assurance measurements.

We investigated whether the length of time fire chemical weathers on a terrestrial substrate before mixing into aquatic environments alters the chemical’s toxicity when encountered by juvenile rainbow trout. We also looked at whether the type of substrate where the chemical is applied affects its toxicity to juvenile rainbow trout after mixing into water. Two fire chemicals (Phos Chek LC95A-R and Phos Chek MVP-Fx) were applied to four substrate media (low organic content soil, high organic content soil, duff, and gravel) and allowed to age on the substrate for 7, 14, 28 or 56 days. At the end of the assigned weathering period, 96-hour assays were conducted by adding water to the dosed substrate and stocking each...

A total of 236 Black Carp were collected throughout the year from 2017-2019 by incidental captures of commercial fishers and biologists. Capture date, river basin of capture location, and coordinates were recorded for each Black Carp captured. A subsample of 119 Black Carp varying from 429-1268 millimeters total length were compared for the precision of annuli counts by two experienced readers for the ossified two anterior pectoral fin rays, the ossified anterior dorsal fin ray, sectioned vertebrae, and lapilli otoliths for selection of a single structure based on percent exact agreement, coefficient of variation, and age-frequency plots.

This project contains data and supporting files from hydrodynamic and particle tracking models of the Missouri River at Searcys Bend developed in conjunction with an experimental dye release at the study site on March 5, 2021. The main objectives of this effort were to develop a hydrodynamic model using topographic and flow data collected in the field for subsequent use in a particle tracking model to simulate dye dispersion during the experiment.

This dataset includes measurements of flow, turbulence, and bathymetry generated from multibeam bathymetry for a short reach of the Missouri River at Searcys Bend (SB) near Huntsdale, Missouri. Flow and turbulence were characterized using a Signature 1000 mounted on an anchored moving boat and an Aquadopp mounted on a tripod near the bed. Repeat bathymetric measurements were made in small patches to characterize bedform movement during velocimetric instrument deployment. The mean daily discharge at the U.S. Geological Survey Streamflow gaging station 06909000 fifteen miles upstream at Boonville, Missouri on September 16, 2021 was 1,291 cubic meters per second.

Baseline fish health information on pallid sturgeon and bull trout or appropriate surrogate species (shovelnose sturgeon, cutthroat trout, mountain whitefish) in critical habitats with elevated risks of oil spills. Shovelnose sturgeon (Scaphirhynchus platorynchus) were collected in three locations near the confluence of the Missouri and Yellowstone Rivers and cutthroat trout (Oncorhynchus clarki lewisi) and mountain whitefish (Prosopium williamsoni) were collected from critical bull trout habitat along the Middle Fork of the Flathead River. Fish health metrics evaluated included gene expression/enzyme induction in various tissues, differential changes in white blood cells, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon bile metabolites,...

Diploid and triploid Grass Carp (Ctenopharyngodon Idella) tagged with acoustic transmitters were observed in Truman Reservoir, Missouri from January 2017 to October 2019 to determine longitudinal movements potentially associated with spawning. Passive acoustic receivers were deployed throughout the reservoir and its tributaries to monitor fish movements as they traversed up and downstream. This dataset consists of the detections made by passive receivers and those made by manual tracking.

Macrhybopsis reproduction and propagule traits were studied in the laboratory using two temperature regimes and three hormone treatments and which methods produced the most spawns. Only sicklefin chub (M. meeki) spawned successfully although sturgeon chub (M. gelida) released unfertilized eggs. All temperature and hormone treatments produced M. meeki spawns, but two treatments had similar success rates at 44 and 43%, consisting of a constant daily temperature with no hormone added, or daily temperature fluctuations with hormone added to the water. Spawns consisted of multiple successful demersal circular swimming spawning embraces interspersed with circular swims without embraces. The most spawns observed for one...
These data are comprised of measurements of elements (e.g., uranium, cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc, cadmium, lead, etc.) in Pinyon Plain Mine containment pond samples collected in calendar year 2020.

This dataset describes the diameter, shape, settling velocity, and specific gravity of eggs from 9 female pallid sturgeon and 14 female shovelnose sturgeon as determined in laboratory studies. Pallid sturgeon and shovelnose sturgeon are believed to broadcast demersal eggs in the current, near the river bed over coarse substrate. It is hypothesized that eggs settle immediately following fertilization, but field conditions preclude direct observation. The dispersal of sturgeon eggs is affected by physical properties of the eggs and hydraulic conditions at the spawning location.

These replicate data support the findings described in the publication, "A comparison of four pore water sampling methods for mixed metals and dissolved organic carbon, and implications for sediment toxicity evaluations" by Danielle Cleveland, William G. Brumbaugh, and Donald D. MacDonald (Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry 2017). The data represent comparison of four commonly-applied techniques for obtaining pore water samples for the quantification of nickel, copper, zinc, arsenic, cadmium, lead and dissolved organic carbon (DOC), including peepers, push points, centrifugation, and diffusive gradients in thin films (DGTs). The methods were evaluated at low and high concentrations of metals in three sediments...
