Earthquake-triggered ground-failure, such as landsliding and liquefaction, can contribute significantly to losses, but our current ability to accurately include them in earthquake hazard analyses is limited. The development of robust and transportable models requires access to numerous inventories of ground failure triggered by earthquakes that span a broad range of terrains, shaking characteristics, and climates. The NSDI Cooperative Agreements Program (CAP) is an annual program to assist the geospatial data community through funding and other resources in implementing the components of the NSDI. This program is open to State, local and Tribal governments, academia, commercial, and non-profit organizations. This program provides small seed grants to initiate sustainable on-going NSDI implementations. The National Science Foundation Ice Core Facility (NSF-ICF) - formerly the U.S. National Ice Core Laboratory (NICL) - is a facility for storing, curating, and studying meteoric ice cores recovered from glaciated regions of the world. NSF-ICF provides scientists with the capability to conduct examinations and measurements on ice cores, and it preserves the integrity of these ice cores in a long-term repository for current and future investigations.

The U.S. Congress authorized a library for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in 1879. The library was formally established in 1882 with the naming of the first librarian and began with a staff of three and a collection of 1,400 books. Today, the USGS Libraries Program is one of the world's largest Earth and natural science repositories and a resource of national significance used by researchers and the public worldwide.
The Core Library and Data Center at Mercury, Nevada, was established as a repository for geologic, hydrologic, and geophysical data and materials collected in support of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) defense and environment programs at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS), formerly Nevada Test Site (NTS). The Core Library is operated by the U.S. Geological Survey and has been used as a staging area for many scientific studies throughout the south western United States, in addition to NNSS. The U.S. Geological Survey Denver Library maintains a collection of more than 400,000 photographs taken during geologic studies of the United States and its territories from 1868 to the present. These images provide a visual history of the discovery, development, and sciences of the United States and its Geological Survey. Some photographs have been used in USGS publications, but most have never been published. The John Wesley Powell Center for Earth System Analysis and Synthesis supports proposal driven working groups to examine some of the most pressing questions and needs for scientific synthesis across the USGS Mission Areas. Working groups are funded to work with existing data as opposed to collecting new data, and the data synthesis results of all projects are published along with journal articles and other products. ScienceBase provides the data backbone for Powell Center working groups.
