This dataset accompanies the publication, 'In situ LA-ICPMS U-Pb dating of cassiterite without a known-age matrix-matched reference material: Examples from worldwide tin deposits spanning the Proterozoic to Tertiary', published in Chemical Geology (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.chemgeo.2018.03.008), which reports a LA-ICPMS analytical procedure for dating cassiterite, a main ore mineral in tin deposits, with no need for an independently dated matrix-matched cassiterite standard.

Ar/Ar data are reported from eight samples of white mica separated from rock samples collected along the Austroalpine-Pennine boundary in the Central Alps of Switzerland. These samples were collected as part of a Caltech PhD study to examine the tectonic history of this boundary and these argon geochronology data represent one small part of the study. Data are reported from these eight samples together with standards that were irradiated together in the Denver USGS TRIGA reactor. Data from the samples were collected by incremental infrared laser heating of individual grains and analysis by multi-collector mass spectrometry. The reported data have been corrected for blanks, radioactive decay, and interfering nucleogenic...

Thirty-four ore, twenty-nine mine waste, seven host rock, two pegmatite, and one slag sample were collected from iron oxide-apatite (IOA) mines in the eastern Adirondack Highlands near Mineville and Ticonderoga, New York, from March 2016 to August 2018. The waste pile samples included twenty-five samples collected from rubble-sized mine waste piles and four samples from processed tailings piles. The ore from historic iron mines of the eastern Adirondack Highlands, New York, contain abundant quantities of rare earth element (REE)-bearing apatite crystals. These apatite crystals are especially enriched in Y, La, Ce, and Nd. In-ground ore, mine waste piles, and tailings piles could contain apatite...

In situ geochemical data were obtained for pyrite crystals and native gold from two distinct vein sets in the Grass Valley gold district, California. Samples of the N-S veins were collected underground at the Empire Mine State Historic Park and samples of the E-W veins were collected from drill core provided by the Idaho-Maryland Mining Corporation in 2008. These geochemical data were analyzed to better understand paragenesis of quartz veins in orogenic gold deposits. Data includes electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) and laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) chemistry and LA-ICP-MS sulfur isotope values for pyrite crystals, and EPMA geochemistry of native gold grains found within...

Annual estimates of road salt application were initially developed for the conterminous United States for the calendar years 1992 through 2015. As more data became available, years 2016 through 2019 were added to the dataset. The final dataset consists of 28 rasters in Geostationary Earth Orbit Tagged Image File Format (GeoTIFF), one for each year from 1992 through 2019. The final estimates (in pounds) were derived from several data sources, which include road density and proportion of developed land use, depth and spatial extent of long-term snowfall, and the production and distribution of salt sources by state. The extent is the conterminous United States, and the spatial resolution is one-square kilometer.
This dataset represents the network-adjusted results of relative- and absolute-gravity surveys. Relative-gravity surveys were carried out using a Zero Length Spring, Inc. relative-gravity meter. The effect of solid Earth tides and ocean loading were removed from the data. Instrument drift was removed by evaluating gravity change during repeated measurements at one or more base stations. Absolute-gravity surveys were carried out using a Micro-g LaCoste, Inc. A-10 absolute-gravity meter. Vertical gradients between the different measuring heights of the absolute- and relative-gravity meters were measured using a relative-gravity meter and tripod, and used to correlate the measurements between the two instruments. Relative-gravity...

This dataset represents the network-adjusted results of relative- and absolute-gravity surveys. Data are provided in tabular (csv) and vector (shapefile) formats with one row per station.Relative-gravity surveys were carried out using a ZLS Coporation Burris relative-gravity meter. The effect of solid Earth tides and ocean loading were removed from the data. Instrument drift was removed by evaluating gravity change during repeated measurements at one or more base stations, or between absolute-gravity stations. Absolute-gravity surveys were carried out using a Micro-g LaCoste, Inc. A-10 absolute-gravity meter. The vertical gravity gradient was assumed to be -3 microGal/cm at each absolute-gravity site. Relative-gravity...
