Heavy rainfall occurred across Louisiana during March 8-19, 2016, as a result of a massive, slow-moving southward dip in the jet stream, which moved eastward across Mexico, then neared the Gulf Coast, funneling deep tropical moisture into parts of the Gulf States and the Mississippi River Valley. The storm caused major flooding in north-central and southeastern Louisiana. Digital flood-inundation maps for a 20.1-mile reach within the community of Minden near Lake Bistineau in Bossier Parish and Bienville Parish, LA was created by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to support response and recovery operations following a March 8-19, 2016 flood event. The...

A bathymetric survey of DeQueen Lake, Sevier County, Arkansas was conducted in July, 2015, by the Lower Mississippi-Gulf Water Science Center of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) using methodologies for multi-beam sonar surveys similar to those described by Lee, K.G. (2013) and Huizinga (2016). Data from the bathymetric survey were merged with data from an aerial LiDAR survey conducted in March, 2008 for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District and from the combined XYZ dataset, a digital terrain model (DTM) of the lakebed below flood pool elevation 474 feet above the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88) was created. Products derived from the DTM include a digital elevation model (DEM) in...

A bathymetric survey of Norfork Lake, Arkansas-Missouri, was conducted in September-October, 2015, by the Lower Mississippi-Gulf Water Science Center of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) using methodologies for multi-beam sonar surveys similar to those described by Lee (2013) and Huizinga (2016). Data from the bathymetric survey were merged with data collected during a March 2008 aerial LiDAR survey provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District. Using Esri ArcGIS version 10.3.1, a feature dataset of the XYZ points from the merged LiDAR and bathymetry data was created within a file geodatabase and an associated terrain (digital terrain model, or DTM) created from the XYZ feature dataset. Products...

This geospatial dataset includes one point feature class file and associated FGDC-compliant metadata representing datasets to support development of ecological limit functions for the Cumberland Plateau in northeastern Middle Tennessee and southeastern Kentucky. Knight and others (2012, 2014) developed a methodology of relating fish species richness to changes in hydrologic conditions for sites within the Tennessee River Basin; this dataset applies this methodology to 138 sites within the the Cumberland Plateau. Information contained within this dataset represents values of basin characteristics (see Table II in Knight and others, 2012), estimates of streamflow characteristics (see Table I in Knight and others,...

This data release includes GIS shapefiles and metadata for location of the study area and phytoplankton taxonomy counts determined by Dr. Russel Rhodes, Faculty Emeritus, Department of Biology, Missouri State University, in three north Louisiana reservoirs: Cross Lake, Bayou D'Arbonne Lake, and Poverty Point Reservoir, June 2009-February 2011. These data and GIS coverages complement and support the findings in the companion report by Tollett and others (in review).

The dataset is a digital elevation model (DEM), in GeoTiff format, of the bathymetry of DeQueen Lake, Sevier County, Arkansas, below a pool elevation of 474 ft above the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88). The DEM was derived from a terrain (digital terrain model, or DTM) created from a feature dataset of XYZ (point) data from an aerial LiDAR survey conducted in March, 2008 for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District, and a bathymetric survey conducted in July, 2015, by the Lower Mississippi-Gulf Water Science Center of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) using methodologies for multi-beam sonar surveys similar to those described by Lee, K.G. This data release includes data processing scripts, data products, and associated metadata for a novel remote-sensing based approach to assess resilience of spring-dependent ecosystems to inter-annual changes in water availability. This approach uses remotely-sensed Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) to (1) delineate surface moisture zones (SMZs) in the vicinity of mapped springs in a semi-arid sage-steppe landscape, (2) derive quantitative indicators of the relative resilience of these SMZs to inter-annual changes in water availability, and (3) synthesize these indicators into an overall resilience score for each cluster of springs. Specifically, for 39 spring clusters mapped in the National Hydrography...
