The U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the Grand River Dam Authority completed a high-resolution multibeam bathymetric survey to compute a new capacity and surface-area table. The capacity and surface-area tables describe the relation between the elevation of the water surface and the volume of water that can be impounded at each given water-surface elevation. The capacity and surface area of Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees were computed from a Triangular Irregular Network (TIN) surface created in Global Mapper Version 21.0.1. The TIN surface was created from three datasets: (1) a multibeam bathymetric survey of Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees in 2019 (Hunter and others 2020), (2) a 2017 USGS bathymetric survey...

This data set shows the grasslands priority conservation areas (GPCAs) within North America’s Central Grasslands, an ecosystem considered among the most threatened in the continent and the world. GPCAs are defined as areas of tri-national importance due to their ecological significance and threatened nature, which are in need of international cooperation for their successful conservation. The 59 GPCAs were identified by biodiversity experts through research and a workshop co-organized by the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) and the Nature Conservancy in 2004 and Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory in 2010. This is an amended version of the 2007 data set.

The North American Atlas – Basin Watersheds data set shows watersheds in North America at 1:10,000,000. A watershed is an area encompassing part or all of a surface drainage basin, a combination of drainage basins, or a distinct hydrologic feature. Watersheds are mapped in a hierarchical system, with the largest units encompassing the entire drainage areas of major rivers or river systems, or encompassing seaboard areas. Within these large units, subsequently smaller units encompass the drainage areas of smaller rivers and streams. Watersheds are classified differently in Canada, Mexico and the United States; the data set includes a continental classification (the North American Watershed, or NAW level), as...

These are the original hexagons created for the 2013 Crucial Habitat Assessment Tool (CHAT) for Colorado, but the attributes have been updated with the 2015 revision to reflect the revised (2015 SWAP Revision) list of Tier 1 Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN), and to incorporate updated occurrence data and improved distribution data for some species. CNHP developed species distribution models for 17 Tier 1 SGCN. Both documented and modeled distribution data for Tier 1 animal and plant SGCN have been combined at the resolution of 640 acre hexagons across the state. Each hexagon is then placed into one of six CHAT priority categories based on rules developed by the Western Governor's Association CHAT member...

This is a test metadata collection record. This is only a test. This is more text to see if updating works. This is even more text that means nothing to see if further updating still works.

In an effort to forecast impacts of future climate change on North American birds, the National Audubon Society has generated a large set of spatial data to characterize climate suitability for individual bird species through time (2000, 2020, 2050, 2080) and across Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) emissions scenarios (B2, A1B, A2) for both winter and summer seasons. These data offer broad spatial and temporal perspective on how species distributions may be influenced by climate change. They can be combined with knowledge of bird biology and other sources of spatial information to inform conservation planning, management, and communication about climate change effects on birds.
Human-induced climate change is increasingly recognized as a fundamental driver of biological processes and patterns, and a threat to the persistence of many species. Recent climate change has already caused shifts in the geographic ranges of myriad species and future climate change is expected to result in even greater redistributions of taxa. As a result, predicting the impact of climate change on future patterns of biodiversity has become a fundamental aspect of conservation planning. Here we use Audubon Christmas Bird Count and North American Breeding Bird Survey data in combination with detailed climate data and projections to estimate the current and future ranges of birds throughout the United States and...
The main objective of this project was to develop a dataset of large, anthropogenic barriers that are spatially linked to the National Hydrography Dataset Plus Version 1 (NHDPlusV1) for the conterminous U.S. and the high resolution National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) for Alaska (1:63,000 scale) and Hawaii (1:24,000 scale) to facilitate GIS analyses based on the NHDPlusV1/NHD and NID datasets. To meet this objective, Michigan State University conducted a spatial linkage of the point dataset of the 2009 National Inventory of Dams (NID) created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to the NHDPlusV1/NHD. The pool of dam data included were modified based on 1) dam removals that occurred after development of the...

The Rainwater Basin (RWB) wetland complex in south-central Nebraska provides crucial stopover habitat for over 7 million waterfowl and 500,000 shorebirds every spring. However, only 10% of the original RWB wetlands remain, resulting in less available habitat for wetland-dependent birds. Conservation efforts are being employed to alleviate the loss of RWB wetlands. To aid conservation efforts, we created a vegetation map of all historical RWB wetlands based on 2004 imagery. The shapefile maps the 2004 vegetation communities for all historic wetlands in the Rainwater Basin region of Nebraska, USA. Vegetation communities include cropped areas that rarely pond water, cropped areas that often pond water, bare soil...

The data of Colorado Parks and Wildlife public access property was derived using the boundary description in the area deed. The boundaries were descriped either using bearing and distances, or using BLM' GCDB datasets on a quarter, quarter section basis. A shapefile from BLM --GCDB of the quarter, quarter sections was downloaded and used for both a reference to help insure that boundary was being entered correctly and as a guide for traverse starting points. The shapefile was also used when boundary was described using the plss to copy the quarter, quarter sections described in the deeds and paste those into the dataset. This was done in ArcMap. The meets and bounds section was mapped by using the traverse...
The Central Platte River Image Library is an extensive dataset of historic 1860's surveys by the Government Land Office and aerial photographs from 1938-2012. All datasets are either public domain property of the U.S. Government or published by the Rainwater Basin Joint Venture (RWBJV) with permission from the respective owner (specifically the Platte River Recovery Implementation Program or Central Platte Natural Resources District). The Central Platte River region of Nebraska extends from approximately Jeffery Reservoir (Western Extent) to Columbus (Eastern Extent). The library was completed May 2014 - Sept 2016 by the Rainwater Basin Joint Venture.
