This data release includes raw and processed (inverted) data for three different geophysical methods, continuous resistivity profiles (CRP), direct current electrical resistivity tomography (ERT), and frequency domain electromagnetic induction (FDEM) data. These surface geophysical methods were used as a proxy for groundwater salinity in the Paradox Valley in western Colorado to investigate temporal and spatial variations in the position of brine-rich groundwater under the Dolores River. Continuous resistivity profile surveys along a 8-10 km reach of the Dolores River were conducted on March 7, May 16, and September 13 of 2017. The ERT surveys were conducted along 3 lines crossing the river and 1 line parallel to...

This dataset contains cross-section geometry and sediment-size data collected in the fall of 2019 from Muddy Creek and North Fork Gunnison River below Paonia Reservoir, western Colorado. Six cross sections were surveyed using Real-Time Kinematic Global Navigation Satellite System (RTK-GNSS) methods to document channel geometry below Paonia Reservoir. One cross section was surveyed on Muddy Creek below Paonia Reservoir, and five cross sections were surveyed from North Fork Gunnison River below Paonia Reservoir. All six cross sections are incorporated in this data release within one shapefile. Pebble counts were performed at each of the six cross sections to document sediment-size distributions downstream from the...

This data release includes geochemical and fallout radionuclide data for suspended sediments and potential sediment source types for the Loutsenhizer Arroyo and Sunflower Drain watersheds in western Colorado. Suspended sediments were collected by passive samplers deployed in the stream channel of the watershed outlets during four study periods between August 2018 and August 2019. Potential sediment source type samples were collected in the watersheds in duplicate using compositing techniques that targeted the top 5 centimeters of soil. The four potential sediment source-types were: agricultural fields, rangeland, arroyo walls, and streambanks. Source type samples were wet sieved to less than (<) 63 microns (µm)...

This dataset contains cross-section surveys of the Gunnison River at Colorado Department of Transportation bridges I-04-K and I-03-A, western Colorado, 2016–17. The surveys were performed using a combination of: Trimble R8 Real-Time Kinematic Global Navigation Satellite System (RTK-GNSS) receiver, a USGS bridge crane with sounding weights, and optical levels. During surveys performed in 2016, a base was established at each bridge using the RTK-GNSS equipment. Subsequent surveys of channel geometry were performed using optical levels for ground surface observations above the water line and sounding weights for streambed observations below the water line, referenced to the base established in 2016. Streambed elevations...

This data set contains cross-section geometry and sediment-size distribution data collected in the fall of 2016 from Muddy Creek and North Fork Gunnison River below Paonia Reservoir, Colorado. Six cross-sections were surveyed using Real-Time Kinematic Global Navigation Satellite System (RTK-GNSS) methods to document channel geometry below the reservoir in 2015. Those same cross-sections were re-surveyed using the same methods in 2016 to document any changes. One cross-section was surveyed on Muddy Creek below Paonia Reservoir, and five cross-sections were surveyed from North Fork Gunnison River below Paonia Reservoir. All six cross-sections are incorporated in this data release within one shapefile. Pebble-counts...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Bureau of Reclamation, completed a review of dissolved selenium data collected from the Selenium Management Program network during each water year (WY) in the lower Gunnison River Basin, in western Colorado. The data tables include dissolved-selenium concentrations, selected streamflow data, and computed loads as well as dissolved-selenium regression model calibration and output tables. Concentration and streamflow data are compiled from the USGS National Water Information System database. Tables include monitoring location identification information, data collection time frames, concentration data, as well as calculations of mean, median, select percentiles,...
This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release provides benthic algae and stream channel characteristics data collected from 20 water-quality sites in the Upper White River Basin, Colorado., during 2018-2021. Also included are input and output data from streamflow and water-quality regression models used to characterize streamflow and water-quality conditions at 3 sites in the Upper White River Basin, Colorado. The data were collected by the USGS. All data are reported as raw calculated values and are not rounded to USGS significant figures. Phytoplankton were identified to the lowest possible taxonomic level, and abundance (density) and biovolume are reported.
