A study to develop an earth observation monitoring system to detect harmful algal bloom (HABs) presence within selected north Texas reservoirs using satellite imagery was conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). This data release provides the data collected for this study including site locations, water-quality, phytoplankton, and hyperspectral water surface reflectance data. Data were collected between September of 2019 and December of 2020 at 39 sites distributed across 16 reservoirs and 1 stream. The stream site was sampled in response to an algal bloom in August of 2019 in Austin Tex., and is included herein but the reservoir sites are the focus of this data release. The datasets include all routine and...

The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the City of South Padre Island, Texas, collected baseline bathymetric data for a near-shore area of the Laguna Madre near South Padre Island in July 2021. Bathymetric survey points were collected using real-time kinematic Global Navigation Satellite System (RTK-GNSS) equipment. The data included in this data release are presented in a comma-separated values (csv) file format.

The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the City of South Padre Island, Texas, collected base line hydrodynamic (tidal water level and current velocity) data for a near-shore area of the Laguna Madre near South Padre Island from August 18, 2021, to April 27, 2022. The data included in this data release are presented in a comma-separated values (csv) file format.

Arundo donax (Arundo Cane) is an invasive perennial reed that can grow more than 30 feet tall and has become established in riparian zones along rivers throughout the southwestern United States. It grows in thick stands, readily displaces native riparian habitat, and provides no habitat or food for native species in the ecosystems it disrupts (McWilliams, 2004). The Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board (TSSWCB) has been directed to develop and implement a program to eradicate Arundo Cane along the entire 1,255 mile length of the Rio Grande in Texas (Texas Senate Bill 1734). The TSSWCB has been using an ecosystem-based approach that integrates the use of biological, chemical, mechanical, and cultural controls...

Uncrewed aerial system (UAS) flights were conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey at an edge-of-field site located north of Medina River Natural Area near San Antonio, Texas on August 14, 2019, and July 8, 2022, to support efforts aimed at estimating edge-of-field erosion and potential sediment loading into the Medina River near San Antonio. Data provided here include imagery obtained during the flights, and ground control point (GCP) information. Additional products including automatically generated point clouds, digital surface models (DSMs), and orthomosaic imagery produced using structure-from-motion (SfM) techniques are part of this data release.

Hydrophobic (sediment-associated) pesticides were measured in sediment samples collected from 82 wadeable streams and in biofilm in 54 of those streams in the Central California Foothills and Coastal Mountains ecoregion.115 current-use and 3 legacy pesticides were measured in stream sediment; 93 of the current-use pesticides and the same 3 legacy pesticides were measured in biofilm. On average 4 times as many current-use pesticides were detected in biofilm at a site (median of 2) as in sediment (median of 0.5). This data release provides data for the pesticide concentrations, information on the pesticide compounds, and input data and R scripts for statistical models used in the analysis presented in the journal...

An extensive archive, estimated to contain more than 3,500 historical (1925–2020) geophysical logs collected in conjunction with past studies conducted by various entities, and more than 2,000 additional donated well and geophysical logs are stored in hard-copy at the Central Texas Branch of the Oklahoma-Texas Water Science Center (OTWSC) located in Austin, Texas. This dataset addresses the need to preserve these records electronically by providing a scanned and indexed collection of 6,058 of these records in Portable Document Format (PDF) along with a public Microsoft Access database and comma-separated values (CSV) text file containing detailed well header information for each record.

The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the City of South Padre Island, Texas, collected baseline seagrass, benthic invertebrate, and water-quality data for a near-shore area of the Laguna Madre near South Padre Island in July 2021. Sample and data collection points were located within a grid consisting of eight transects and three sampling points on each transect. The data included in this data release are presented in a comma-separated values (csv) file format.
