These model archive summaries document the surrogate regression models developed to estimate 15-minute suspended-sediment concentrations at three streamgage sites in Colorado: Anthracite Creek above Mouth near Somerset, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) site number 09132095; Muddy Creek above Paonia Reservoir, USGS site number 385903107210800; and North Fork Gunnison below Raven Gulch near Somerset, USGS site number 385553107243301. The methods used follow USGS guidance as referenced in relevant Office of Surface Water Technical Memorandum (TM) 2016.07 and Office of Water Quality TM 2016.10, USGS Techniques and Methods, book 3, chap. C5 (Landers and others, 2016), and (or) USGS Techniques and Methods, book 3, chap....
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the California State Water Resources Control Board and Bureau of Land Management compiled and analyzed data for mapping groundwater salinity in selected oil and gas fields in California. The data for the South Cuyama oil field includes well construction data, digitized borehole geophysical data, geochemical analyses of water samples from oil and gas wells and groundwater wells, geological formation depths, and the groundwater total dissolved solids (TDS) calculations. These data have been compiled from many sources and span several decades. The well construction data includes attributes such as the date drilling began (spud date), borehole orientation, well depth...

As part of the California State Water Resources Control Board’s Oil and Gas Regional Monitoring Program , the U.S. Geological Survey collected groundwater and quality-control (QC) samples during September 2016–February 2017 from 14 water-production wells located within a one-mile buffer zone of and in the Fruitvale Oil field, Kern County, California. Samples were analyzed for water-quality indicators, major and minor ions, nutrients, trace elements, volatile organic compounds, naturally occurring radioactive material, geochemical and age-dating tracers, dissolved organic carbon, dissolved standard and hydrocarbon gases, and dissolved noble and atmospheric gases. In total, 235 constituents and water-quality indicators...

In cooperation with the California State Water Resources Control Board’s oil and gas Regional Monitoring Program, the U.S. Geological Survey collected and analyzed groundwater and associated quality control (QC) samples during June 2017 – August 2017. Groundwater samples were collected from one public supply well, four monitoring wells, and nine irrigation wells located within a three- mile buffer zone overlying and surrounding the Oxnard oil field administrative boundary in Ventura County, California. Samples were collected using established groundwater data-collection protocols and procedures. Samples were analyzed for water-quality indicators, major and minor ions, nutrients, trace elements, volatile organic...

In 2013, the Regional Stream Quality Assessment (RSQA) study was started as part of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Water-Quality Assessment (NAWQA) project. One of the objectives of the RSQA is to characterize the relationships between water-quality stressors and stream ecology and subsequently determine the relative effects of these stressors on aquatic biota within the streams (Garrett and others, 2017; Journey and others, 2015; Coles and others, 2019; Sheibley and others, 2017; May and others, 2020). The study was implemented in five regions across the United States (U.S.); the Midwest (MSQA) in 2013, the southeast (SESQA) in 2014, the Pacific Northwest (PNSQA) in 2015, the northeast (NESQA) in 2016,...

The American Tunnel, the Black Hawk mine, the Gold King mine, the Mogul mine, and the Red and Bonita mine are located in the Cement Creek watershed, tributary to the upper Animas River near Silverton, Colorado. All five sites have tunnels that drain groundwater from abandoned underground mine workings to the surface. This draining water has elevated concentrations of metals and degrades water quality in Cement Creek. Water quality (pH, and dissolved copper, manganese, and zinc concentrations) and discharge data were compiled from multiple sources to examine changes in these parameters through time. Copper, manganese, and zinc loads calculated from these data are included in the data files. Data are reported for...
