A mineral resource assessment was performed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) to assess the potential of undiscovered skarn-hosted tungsten resources in the Northern Rocky Mountain region of eastern Idaho and western Montana. This region has seen moderate tungsten trioxide (WO3) production in the past from a variety of mineralization styles including skarn, vein and replacement, and wolframite-quartz veins. The geology of the area is dominated by large plutons of Cretaceous to Tertiary age, emplaced into a belt of sedimentary rock ranging from Mesoproterozoic to Permian age, and affected by tectonism related to the Sevier and later Laramide orogenies. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) collected rock magnetic susceptibility and density measurements to understand the causative sources of airborne magnetic and ground gravity survey anomalies in the Wet Mountains, Colorado. A total of 609 magnetic susceptibility and 86 density measurements were collected from outcrops and hand samples, respectively, from July 2022 to June 2023. These measurements aid the interpretation of newly collected geophysical data to identify concealed Ediacaran-Ordovician alkaline igneous features and potential rare earth element deposits. A method was described for determination of trace levels of silicon by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) from hydrofluoric (HF) digests of biological samples. The volatility of silicon in HF digests was examined with synthetic solutions as well as soil and mine waste samples. A digestion scheme was optimized to achieve complete dissolution, avoid loss of volatile silicon species and produce sample solutions that can be directly analyzed by ICP-MS. Regional geophysical data grid files (provided in Grid eXchange File format) were used to study crustal architecture beneath the Southern Midcontinent (USA) by McCafferty and others (2019). The study covered a rectangular, multi-state area of 924 by 924 kilometers centered on Missouri, and a corresponding volume extending from the topographic surface to a depth of 50 kilometers below sea level. The observed geophysical data grids (Bouguer gravity anomaly and reduced-to-pole (RTP) aeromagnetic anomaly) were used in 3D inversions, and the calculated geophysical data grids were produced by the inversions. All grids are sampled at a 2,000 by 2,000 meter grid interval.

The Southern San Andreas fault (SSAF) poses one of the largest seismic risks in California. However, structural properties around Coachella Valley remain enigmatic. In 2019, we collected magnetotelluric soundings (MT) to help inform depth-dependent fault zone geometry, fluid content and porosity. This project was led by the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics at the University of California San Diego in partnership with U.S. Geological Survey and funded in large part by the Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC). This dataset accompanies planned publication 'Determining fault geometry through the transport-parallel distribution of thermochronometer cooling ages'. The Ar/Ar data is for samples that record the thermal history of the area. The geochronology provides time constraints for the thermal histories studied in the manuscript. Samples were collected from Nepal, overseen by Nadine McQuarrie (University of Pittsburgh), who sent them to the USGS Denver Argon Geochronology Laboratory for Ar/Ar analysis.
This data release contains two related datasets acquired for the uncrewed aerial system aeromagnetic test survey at the Boulder Magnetic Observatory. The first contains the raw magnetic data for the set of four test flights, and the second contains the compensated magnetic data for the same four flights. Details of the data are recorded in the metadata files associated with each dataset.

Inorganic compositions of flowback and co-produced waters from hydrocarbon extraction have been studied directly and through laboratory experiments that seek to replicate subsurface water-rock interaction. Here a broad analysis is made of compositions from the U.S. Geological Survey Produced Waters Database (v2.3) and leachates (water, hydrochloric acid, artificial brine) for 12 energy-resource related shales from across the United States. The organic composition of produced waters (flowback and formation waters) from the Bakken Formation and the Three Forks Formation in the Williston Basin, North Dakota were examined in this study in order to aid in the remediation of surface contamination due to spills during transport and help develop treatment methods for recycling. Twelve produced water samples were collected from wells in the Bakken and Three Forks Formations at the well head and analyzed for non-purgable dissolved organic carbon (NPDOC), acetate, and extractable hydrocarbons. This data release contains data on historical water use, spatial land disturbance, and spatial aquifer disturbances related to in situ recovery (ISR) uranium extraction per unit of uranium produced. These data were compiled from published and publicly available references including journal articles, government reports, industry reports and company reporting documents for regulatory compliance and financial reporting requirements. Six uranium ISR mines are represented: Alta Mesa, Kingsville Dome, Mt. Lucas, Palangana, Palangana Dome, and Rosita.

The U.S. Geological Survey Central Energy Science Center (CERSC) was asked to provide allocations of oil and gas resources and numbers of potential wells calculated from these allocated resources for the BLM Carlsbad Planning Area in New Mexico. The resource allocations were based on the most current USGS assessment of continuous (unconventional) oil and gas resources within eleven geologically defined assessment units in the Delaware Basin (Gaswirth and others, 2018).
The Andes Mountains of South America host significant porphyry copper deposits. The region is the major global source of copper and an area of active mining, exploration, and development. The Andes region was included in USGS global compilations of porphyry deposits published by Singer and others in 2005 and 2008. Since that time, many new discoveries and new resource data have become available. This compilation includes new and updated location, references, and grade and tonnage data for porphyry copper deposits in the Andes along with grade and tonnage data from the previous compilations. The data release includes a data table, references, and shapefiles of porphyry copper locations and political boundaries.

This data release contains reflectance measurements for eight samples submitted to the USGS Organic Petrology Laboratory in Reston. Samples include two artificial rock samples made from cement with organic matter added (samples 001-002), a coal and shale sample (samples 003-004, respectively), and hydrous pyrolysis residues for samples 001-004. The hydrous pyrolysis experiments were conducted at 330°C for 72 hours at the United States Geological Survey's (USGS) Denver Federal Center.
