This Data Release contains field topo-bathymetric survey data in a selected saltmarsh shoreline along Gandys Beach, New Jersey, where constructed oyster reefs (CORs, aka oyster castles) were installed to protect the shoreline and enhance habitat for oyster and other species. Oyster castles were constructed as a part of a living shoreline project along Gandys Beach in 2016 in response to the damage by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Wave, current and sediment data were collected, and field topographic and bathymetric surveys were conducted from January 2018 to April 2018. Fine resolution topographic and bathymetric data is needed to assess shoreline structure effectiveness in terms of wave and current energy reduction,...
Digital flood-inundation maps for coastal communities within Monmouth County in New Jersey were created by water surfaces generated by an Advanced Circulation hydrodynamic (ADCIRC) and Simulating Waves Nearshore (SWAN) model from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region II coastal analysis and mapping study (Federal Emergency Management Agency, 2014). Six synthetic modeled tropical storm events from a library of 159 events were selected based on parameters including landfall location or closest approach location, maximum wind speed, central pressure, and radii of winds. Two storm events were selected for the tide gage providing two "scenarios" and accompanying inundation-map libraries. The contents...

Digital flood-inundation maps for an approximately 295-mile length of the New Jersey coastline and tidewaters through 10-coastal counties stretching from Cumberland County through Bergen County; including Cumberland, Cape May, Atlantic, Ocean, Monmouth, Middlesex, Union, Essex, Hudson, and Bergen counties were created by the U.S Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) and New Jersey Office of Emergency Management (NJOEM). The flood-inundation maps depict extent and depth estimates of coastal flooding corresponding to selected tidal elevations recorded by 25 real-time USGS tide gages located throughout the length of the study area coastline. The flood-inundation...

This dataset contains measurements of wave height, peak wave period, and water depth taken every 0.5 hours from February 13 to June 12, 2020, at three wave gauge locations along the Fog Point shoreline in Martin National Wildlife Refuge, Maryland. These wave gauges were continuously sampled at 10 Hz, capturing 20-minute bursts every 30 minutes (peak wave periods longer than 7s were removed). Additionally, the dataset includes measurements of current velocity at one location during the same period. A tilt current meter (TCM, Lowell Instruments LLC, short-TCMs, range of 0-60 cm/s), consisting of a tilt-corrected compass in a buoyant casing and attached to a concrete tile at the sediment surface, was used to measure...

Field observations and spectral evolution of wind waves in Upper Delaware Bay with living shorelines
This dataset contains measured (interval=0.5 hour) water depth, wave height, and peak wave period during February 2 to April 4, 2018 at six wave gage locations along the Gandy's Beach, New Jersey in upper Delaware Bay. These data were used for the analysis of spectral evolution of wind waves along the coast in upper Delaware Bay with oyster-reef based living shoreline.
