On August 25, 2020, the U.S. Geological Survey conducted a bathymetry survey of a 550 meter long reach of the Black River near Great Bend, New York. The study reach began approximately 1,000 meters upstream from the State Route 26 bridge in Great Bend, New York. Depth data were collected primarily with a 1,200 kilohertz Teledyne RD Instruments RioPro acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) with position data from differential global navigation satellite system (GNSS) Hemisphere V102 DGPS antenna (any use of trade, firm, or product names is for descriptive purposes only and does not imply endorsement by the U.S. Government). Water surface elevations were established using real-time kinematic (RTK) GNSS surveys;...

This data release contains data from five seismic-reflection surveys in New York’s East River between Governors Island and the Queensboro Bridge. Data are provided in the original proprietary data format, a SEGy data exchange format, and as a shape file of locations and depths to bedrock. Depths to bedrock were derived from the seismic signal travel time and an assumed speed of sound of 5,000 feet/second.

Using a combination of public and proprietary historical construction test borings, recent exploration drilling, USGS observation wells, outcrops, and seismic measurements, a series of geospatial overlays for bedrock elevation and overburden thickness were created for the Five Boroughs of New York City, New York. Rasters were interpolated from a point elevation data set and refined using published and interpretive bedrock contours, and interpreted glacial valleys and faults. Contours for bedrock elevation were generated at 100-ft contour intervals and smoothed. This data release includes shapefiles containing the input point elevation features and output contours, and rasters of interpolated bedrock elevation and...

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release contains batch formatted annual peak streamflow data (PkFlows_AllSites.txt) through the 2020 water year for six selected USGS streamgages (01321000, 01342797, 01343060, 01346000, 01347000, and 01348000) that recorded the flood of October 31 – November 3, 2019, which severely affected the Mohawk Valley and southern Adirondack region in central New York State. This data release also contains batch formatted specification (PkFlows_AllSites.psf) and output (PEAKFLOWS_ALLSITES.PRT) files from log-Pearson type III (LPIII) flood-frequency analysis of the annual peak streamflow data in version 7.4 of the USGS PeakFQ software (Flynn and others, 2006), which implements the Bulletin...
The Retsof salt mine in the Genesee River Valley, Livingston County, New York, flooded after mine-roof collapses in 1994 created two rubble chimneys in overlying bedrock that intersected a confined aquifer in the basal glacial-drift deposits and continued collapse to the land surface. Groundwater in the lower confined aquifer flowed downward through the bedrock rubble chimneys causing widespread drawdown in the lower confined aquifer until the mine was completely flooded in 1996 (Yager and others, 2001). By 2005, water levels in the lower confined aquifer had nearly recovered to pre-collapse conditions but the hydraulic connection through the rubble chimneys between the brine-filled mine cavity, saline-water bedrock...
