Legacy and emerging contaminants were measured in streams and rivers in the District of Columbia and the states of Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia of the Chesapeake Bay watershed between 2005 and 2013. Passive sampling devices, SPMDs and POCIS, were used to sample these waterbodies, providing a time-integrated concentration of contaminants that are potentially bioavailable to native fishes. This data set is a compilation of data from eight separate studies, all focused on determining the potential exposure of organic chemicals to fish which may be responsible for instances of fish kills and intersex that were observed in these waterbodies.

These data consist of three related tables describing test conditions including pesticide concentration, water quality, and post-treatment survival of crayfish associated with laboratory studies conducted to determine 24-hr acute lethal concentrations of two pesticides containing pyrethrin or cypermethrin for two crayfish species, Procambarus clarkii and Faxonius virilis. Tests investigated whether two nominal temperatures (10 and 22 °C) and total suspended solids in water affected pesticide toxicity. Laboratory data will be used to design field treatments for open-water populations of invasive P. clarkii. Water quality monitoring during testing followed standard testing protocols and included temperature, pH, specific...

These data were generated with MAXENT 3.3.3k freeware (Phillips et al. 2011) using climate data and fire probability data for for three time periods: reference (1900-1929), mid-century (2040-2069) and late century (2070-2099), and community occurrence point data extracted from LANDFIRE Environmental Site Potential (ESP). Future time period data are from three global climate models (GCMs): CGCM, GFDL, and HadCM3. In MAXENT, we used the logistic output format (generating presence probabilities between 0 and 1), a random test percentage of 30 (using 70 % of the occurrence points to generate the suitability model and 30 % of the occurrence points to validate it), and a jackknife test to measure variable importance....

Three .csv files contain occurrence points (longitude and latitude) for three woody vegetation communities found in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. Points were extracted from publicly available LANDFIRE Environmental Site Potential 30 m raster downgraded to 1 km using a majority classification algorithm. The three communities are an oak type (dominated by Quercus stellata and Q. marilandica), a mesquite type (dominated by Prosopis glandulosa and P. velutina), and a pinyon-juniper type (dominated by Pinus edulis and Juniperus osteosperma). The 21 rasters contain environmental suitability scores for each of the three communities, generated with MAXENT freeware using historic and projected climate and fire probability...

This dataset contains the input Python files used to generate particle tracking simulations of the Searcys Bend dye release experiment using the “Fluvial Particle” model. There are four input files that each correspond to each of the model runs using different lateral eddy viscosity (LEV) parameter values at multiplies of 0.5, 1, 2, and 4 of the calculated value. Discussion of the chosen model parameters can be found in (insert paper reference). Documentation on running the model can be found at: (https://doi.org/10.5066/P9K1U4O0). One of the input parameters is the path to a file for particle starting locations called “StartLoc”, which is also provided within this data release (https://doi.org/10.5066/P9QOZM1N)....

This data set includes a point cloud, digital surface model (DSM), and orthoimagery of Home, Paradise, Kaula, and Engineer Islands at Palmyra Atoll, USA. Products were generated from aerial images collected in October 2016 using Unoccupied Aerial Systems (UAS, or "drones") with a Ricoh GRII digital camera. Imagery was processed using structure-from-motion photogrammetry that generates a three dimensional point cloud (.las) by identifying pixels from multiple images representing the same object and calculating the x, y, and z coordinates of that object/pixel. Point cloud data were processed to create a 12.7 cm resolution DSM (.tif) of the uppermost reflective surface (i.e., data have not been filtered for vegetation...

Advances in drilling technique have facilitated a rapid increase in hydrocarbon extraction from energy shales, including the Williston Basin in central North America. This area overlaps with the Prairie Pothole Region and greater than 35% of wetlands are less than or equal to 1 km from a petroleum-related well. Legacy practices often released saline co-produced waters (brines) that were chloride rich wastes, affecting wetland water quality directly or persisting in sediments. Despite the potential threat of brine contamination to aquatic habitats, there has been little research into their ecological effects. We capitalized on a gradient of legacy brine-contaminated wetlands in northeast Montana to conduct laboratory...

Invasive crayfish are known to displace native crayfish species, alter aquatic habitat and community structure and function, and are serious pests for fish hatcheries. White River Crawfish (WRC; Procambarus acutus) were inadvertently introduced to a warm-water fish hatchery in Missouri, USA, possibly in an incoming fish shipment. We evaluated the use of chemical control for crayfish to ensure incoming and outgoing fish shipments from hatcheries do not contain live crayfish. We conducted acute (less than or equal to 24 hr) static toxicity tests to determine potency, dose-response, and selectivity of pesticides to WRC, Virile Crayfish (VC; Orconectes virilis), and Fathead Minnow (FHM; Pimephales promelas). Data included...
