This dataset includes photographic images of thin sections made from xenolith samples collected from the Sliderock Mountain and Susie Peak plutons, Montana, along with a shapefile representing the locations of the samples. The plutons are located north of the Stillwater Complex, Montana, which is exposed along the northern side of the Beartooth Mountains in Montana. To the north of the Stillwater Complex, a gravity anomaly is located where Phanerozoic rocks may unconformably overlie the complex. These Phanerozoic rocks are intruded by Cretaceous plutons that have gabbroid inclusions that resemble other metamorphosed rocks of the Stillwater Complex. Samples of the inclusions were collected, and thin sections were...

The "Li_Triangle_ARG_MRP_NMIC.gdb" geospatial database was developed by the U.S. Geological Survey for use in a geographic information system (GIS) to support mineral resource research and assessment of lithium resources in the Argentina portion of the central South American Lithium Triangle. The Lithium Triangle is host to significant amounts (nearly 60%) of the worlds known (identified) resources of lithium. Over 100 salars and lagunas, ranging in area from a few square kilometers (km2) to approximately 9,000 km2, are found within this region. The Lithium Triangle is approximately 400,000 km2 and encompasses about 150 internal drainage basins in northwestern Argentina, western Bolivia, northern Chile, and southern-most...
This dataset includes photographic and micrographic images of thin sections of drill core from the Stillwater Complex, Montana, along with a shapefile representing the locations of the drill holes. The core was drilled in order to study contact-type copper and nickel sulfide mineralization in the Stillwater Complex. See data release https://doi.org/10.5066/p9w5kp8u for accompanying drill log data. The images of the entire thin section, both in plane- and cross-polarized light, were taken using a high-resolution digital camera on a macro stand. The 4x and 10x resolution images were taken on an Olympus petrographic microscope using Stream Image Analysis Software. Each zip file, named with the drill hole identification...
This dataset includes photographic images of thin sections of drill core from the Stillwater Complex, Montana, along with a shapefile representing the locations of the drill holes. The core was drilled in order to study contact-type copper and nickel sulfide mineralization in the Stillwater Complex. The images of the entire thin section, both in plane- and cross-polarized light, were taken using a high-resolution digital camera on a macro stand. Each zip file, named with the drill hole identification number, contains the images for a single drill hole. The data in each zip file is organized into a folder containing the 'RAW' unprocessed CR2 images and a folder containing processed jpg images. Folders with a "p1"...

This dataset includes TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) images of graphic drill core logs showing associated drill core information, a TIFF image of the explanation for the lithology and structure sections of the logs, an Esri shapefile of the locations of the drill holes, and 17 individual .csv files of tabular data that were compiled from handwritten drill core logs. The drill core is from the Mountain View area of the Stillwater Complex, Montana and was drilled from 1988 to 1990 by the Chrome Corporation of America. The data shown in the graphic drill logs and contained within the .csv files includes lithologic, structure, grain size, sulfide, chromite, chromium, platinum, palladium, copper, and nickel mineralization...

Topography provides information about the structural controls of the Great Basin and therefore information that may be used to identify favorable structural settings for geothermal systems. Specifically, local relative topography gives information about locations of faults and fault intersections relative to mountains, valleys, or at the transitions between. As part of U.S. Geological Survey efforts to engineer features that are useful for predicting geothermal resources, we construct a detrended elevation map that emphasizes local relative topography and highlights features that geologists use for identifying geothermal systems (i.e., providing machine learning algorithms with features that may improve predictive...

This shapefile contains total‐field marine magnetic data from eleven cruises of the USCGS ship Pioneer (OSS‐31) and one cruise from the USS Rehoboth (AGS‐50) in deep water off the west coast of the United States and southern British Columbia in 1955 and 1956. Magnetic anomalies are calculated with the latest definitive geomagnetic reference field (DGRF) included in the 12th Generation of the International Geomagnetic Reference Field model (Thébault and others, 2015). The marine magnetic data from these cruises were recovered from backup tapes that archived the work of Skaer and Hey in the late 1980s (Skaer, 1989). Fernandez and Hey (1991) merged these 1950s data with magnetic data from subsequent cruises. Raw data...

A detailed aeromagnetic survey of Mountain Pass, California was flown by CGG Canada Services Ltd. (CGG) during November and December, 2016. The high-resolution helicopter survey was flown at a flightline spacing of 100 and 200 m, a flightline azimuthal direction of 70 degrees, a nominal flightline elevation above ground of 70 m, and consists of about 1,814 line-kilometers. Tie lines were spaced at a 1-km interval with a flight-line azimuthal direction of 160 degrees. A Scintrex CS-3 cesium magnetometer was used throughout the airborne survey as well as for the ground base station survey. Data are presented as residual magnetic intensity (RMI) in nanoteslas (nT).

During the summers of 2017 and 2020, our team collected gravity, ground magnetic (ATV and hiked traverses), paleomagnetic and rock property (density and susceptibility) data on the Umatilla Indian Reservation (UIR) in northeast Oregon to aid in characterizing subsurface stratigraphy using 2D and 3D modeling methods. This data was integrated with conductance surfaces from a 3D magnetotelluic model and regional stress data to generate geothermal resource favorability maps to inform future exploration and drilling efforts by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR).
This database contains the results of slip tendency and dilation tendency analysis of Quaternary faults in the Great Basin region, including parts of Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Wyoming. This effort was undertaken to help identify faults and fault segments that are appropriately oriented to be stress-loaded for slip or to dilate under the ambient stress conditions. Both conditions may make such faults likely to host as-yet-undiscovered hydrothermal processes. Slip tendency and dilation tendency were calculated for all fault segments in a publicly available fault database modified after the U.S. Geology Survey Quaternary Fault and Fold Database. This work was undertaken as part of the INGENIOUS...

This digital dataset represents the 3D fault and stratigraphic surfaces of the three dimensional geologic map of the southeastern Gabbs Valley, Nevada. The data define the easting, northing, and elevations (meters, NAD 83 Zone 11N) of points that define the top and bottom contacts of stratigraphic units and fault surfaces.

The Trans-Pecos region of West Texas and Southern New Mexico contains a series of rare earth element (REE) enriched ~ 34-36 Ma intrusive rhyolites and syenites. One such intrusive in the Sierra Blanca Mountains, Texas, hosts the Round Top REE deposit which is one of the few REE deposits in the U.S. with an economic evaluation and is scheduled to go into production in 2025. In addition, Alkaline igneous rocks in the Cornudas and Hueco Mountains, both within the Trans-Pecos area, also show high concentration of REEs and other critical elements. In early 2021 an aeromagnetic and aeroradiometric survey was flown over the Trans-Pecos region with the following objectives: 1) Detect regional trends, fractures, or patterns...

Images of subsurface electrical conductivity are useful for locating fluids and other electrically conductive phases at depth in the Earth. This data release presents electrical conductance maps estimated from a 3D model of the Great Basin, USA, at five different depth ranges, spanning 2 to 200 km depth. Electrical conductance is the integration of electrical conductivity in a depth range. Great Basin electrical conductivity is estimated through 3D inverse modeling of over 800 publicly available magnetotelluric (MT) transfer functions. The transfer functions can be found on the electromagnetic transfer function repository hosted by the Incorporated Research Institutions of Seismology (IRIS) data management center...
