This dataset contains geomorphometry for streams and floodplains in the Chesapeake and Delaware River watersheds derived from processing 3-m DEMs through the Floodplain and Channel Evaluation Tool (FACET) version 0.1.0. Geomorphometry is a quantitative representation of landscape surface form (e.g., channel width and depth) obtained from digital elevation models (DEMs). The Chesapeake and Delaware Basin Combined Files are an aggregated version of the individual HUC8/10 files. Combined basin-wide files are provided for the stream network, floodplain extent, and select stream and floodplain geomorphic metrics.

Reliable estimates of the magnitude and frequency of floods are an important part of the framework for hydraulic-structure design and flood-plain management in Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina (study area). Annual peak flows measured at U.S. Geological Survey streamgages were used to compute at-site flood-frequency estimates at those streamgages in the study area based on annual peak-flows records through 2017. Flood-frequency estimates also are needed at ungaged stream locations. A process known as regionalization was used to develop regression equations to estimate the magnitude and frequency of floods at ungaged locations. This model archive provides the inputs and outputs for (1) the at-site flood-frequency...

Force gage measurements were used to parameterize a force balance model for the initiation of sediment motion and thus characterize bed mobility for two reaches of the lower Merced River in California's Central Valley. These data were acquired to support research intended to evaluate the extent to which large-scale restoration projects provided improved salmon spawning habitat. A related goal of this study was to improve our understanding of the geomorphic factors influencing spawning site selection by salmon. The force gage measurements were made at the Merced River Ranch and Robinson Reach field sites and involved using a spring-resisting force gage to push a given submerged particle in a bed-parallel downstream...

This USGS data release presents tabular data of daily and annual (for the 9-month period March 1 through November 30) estimates of concentrations and fluxes of total and dissolved phosphorus, total nitrogen, chloride, and total suspended solids for 18 monitored tributaries of Lake Champlain. Annual estimates of concentration and flux are presented as 9-month data because the frequency and type of sample data from winter months are inadequate for making meaningful wintertime estimates. Daily estimates generally cover the period March 1990 through November 2014 and annual estimates 1990 through 2014, although dates vary by constituent and tributary, depending on availability of raw data. The dataset consists of 6...

This data release contains estimates of annual nitrogen and phosphorus loads, as well as loads of other constituents, from sites in the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Illinois EPA) Ambient Water Quality Monitoring Network. The loads were estimated using Weighted Regressions on Time, Discharge, and Season with Kalman filtering (WRTDS-K) and existing discrete water-quality data and discharge data collected by Illinois EPA, the U.S. Geological Survey, and Illinois State Water Survey from water year 1976 to 2021 (Hirsch and others, 2015; Lee and others, 2019). All water-quality and discharge data used in this work are available from the Water Quality Portal and the National Water Information System database...

Images of subsurface electrical conductivity are useful for locating fluids and other electrically conductive phases at depth in the Earth. This data release presents electrical conductance maps estimated from a 3D model of the Great Basin, USA, at five different depth ranges, spanning 2 to 200 km depth. Electrical conductance is the integration of electrical conductivity in a depth range. Great Basin electrical conductivity is estimated through 3D inverse modeling of over 800 publicly available magnetotelluric (MT) transfer functions. The transfer functions can be found on the electromagnetic transfer function repository hosted by the Incorporated Research Institutions of Seismology (IRIS) data management center...

This Data Release contains a series of reconnaissance Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) profiles collected in 2015 to image potential shallow faulting related to the 1886 M~7 earthquake near Charleston, South Carolina, and any other faults in the area. The data include coordinates for the profiles as .kmz files, and processed GPR data in SEGY format, with both the unmigrated and migrated profiles. The raw data, totalling about six gbytes, are archived as .zip files containing the coordinate files (.cor) and the data in Mala format (.rd3). We also archive the merged and stacked profiles in which the single-channel traces (single source and receiver) were combined (stacked) into 1-m distance bins starting at the beginning...

Water supply lakes are the primary source of water for many communities in northern and western Missouri. Therefore, accurate and up-to-date estimates of lake capacity are important for managing and predicting adequate water supply. Many of the water supply lakes in Missouri were previously surveyed by the U.S. Geological Survey in the early 2000s (Richards, 2013) and in 2013 (Huizinga, 2014); however, years of potential sedimentation may have resulted in reduced water storage capacity. Periodic bathymetric surveys are useful to update the area/capacity table and to determine changes in the bathymetric surface. Hazel Creek Lake is a water supply lake used by the city of Kirksville in northeastern Missouri. The surface...

Water resources of the energy development area of the Williston Basin in eastern Montana, western North Dakota, and northwest South Dakota are described in terms of characteristics of the produced water and other deep formation water.
