Comprehensive Historic Biodiversity Inventory List of Boston Harbor, 1861-2020 This data set is an amalgamation of records of marine and coastal species occurrence in the Boston Harbor. Taxon include marine mammals, shorebirds, fish, marine invertebrates, and marine macro algae. The earliest record acquired was from 1861. Records span through 2020. We curated records from federal and state agencies, peer reviewed and gray literature, and scientific grade research observations from public biodiversity database repositories. One direct human modification – ditching – was common across the Northeast for salt hay farming since European Colonization and for mosquito control in the first half of the 20th century. We hand-digitized linear ditches across Northeastern intertidal emergent wetlands from contemporary aerial imagery within the bounds of the National Wetland Inventory's Estuarine Intertidal Emergent Wetland areas.
