This collection (known internally at Maryland Geological Survey as Component 8) consists of 211 infrared, 9 in. by 9 in. aerial photographs (211 unique frames) flown on a 7.5-minute U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) quadrangle basis. The photographs date from 1988-1989 and were flown or otherwise acquired by the USGS National Aerial Photograph Program (NAPP). The Maryland counties covered by these photographs include Allegany, Anne Arundel, Calvert, Cecil, Charles, Dorchester, Kent, Prince George’s, Queen Anne’s, Somerset, St. Mary’s, Talbot, Washington, and Worcester Counties. Earl Edward Brabb spent his 40-year career with the U.S.Geological Survey carrying out a number of scientific investigations with a focus on natural hazards. He is the author or co-author of more than 170 maps and reports. During his career with USGS, Earl E. Brabb produced multiple fieldbooks dating back to 1957. His fieldbooks are currently being scanned and converted to PDFs.

The Historic Images Collection includes approximately 15,500 photographs, slides, lantern slides and digital media in this collection were taken during the course of geologic, mineral resource, and geologic hazard investigations carried out by Virginia Energy staff beginning in the first half of the 20th century. Collection of data from the Lead-Zinc District of Northwestern Illinois. Collection includes borehole data, driller logs, descriptive logs, formation tops, and downhole lead, zinc, and iron concentrations from mining operations circa 1900-1980. Sources of the collection include original mining company records and maps, maps and logs from the US Bureau of Mines "Illinois Mineral Development Atlas", and Illinois State Geological Survey records.
Collection includes mineral exploration cores originally obtained by the U.S. Bureau of Mines. Exploration for base metals, Mn-slate, alkaline earth elements was conducted. Cores were obtained from the following locations in Maine: Albany, Blue Hill, Brooksville, Buckfield, Hammond, Newry, Spencer Lake, TDR2, T9R3. The Florida Geological Survey (FGS) holds a collection of over 9,000 lithologic descriptions of cores and cuttings from boreholes throughout Florida. This includes legacy logs previously stored in a file format requiring a DOS program to decode. Paper copies of a majority of legacy lithologic logs are stored in 150 large, green loose-leaf binders collectively named “Greenbooks,” (see the Collection of Borehole and Sample Reference Documents from Florida). The legacy files represent 60% of the collection and are currently being prepared for import into the FGS’s database to be made publicly available. Until 2007, when they transferred to the FDEP Division of Water Resource Management’s Mining and Mitigation Program, the Florida Geological Survey (FGS) had an Oil and Gas section who maintained a collection comprised of: permit application and compliance documents; well logs and well test data; monthly production data; and inspection photographs. Once stored in 54, four-drawer legal-sized file cabinets and organized by the permit number, the documents were scanned in batches and transferred back to the FGS. This collection contains test-hole cores through surficial sediments and shallow bedrock drilled by the Nebraska Geological Survey (Conservation and Survey Division), the Nebraska Department of Roads, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and other organizations, including bedrock cores drilled by petroleum and mineral concerns.
