Water surface elevations within seven Willamette River off-channel features (OCF; alcoves and side channels) were measured using submerged pressure transducers. Transducers were installed from late May through mid-October, 2016, when discharge of the Willamette River was between approximately 5,500 and 45,000 cubic feet per second at Salem, Oregon (USGS gage 14191000) and 3,500 to 17,500 cubic feet per second at Harrisburg, Oregon (USGS gage 14166000). Pressure transducer sensor depth was measured at all seven sites. This dataset describes the storm event mean concentrations and loads of total and dissolved forms of phosphorus and nitrogen from paired samples collected in the control and test catchment during the calibration and treatment phase of a leaf removal study in Madison, Wisconsin, USA. Samples were collected in spring 2013 through fall 2015 and are parsed by season where spring represents April – May, summer represents June – September and fall represents October – November. Measured weather parameters for each sampled storm event are also described. These data are interpreted in a journal article published in Science of the Total Environment.

Water velocities were measured in the Calumet Harbor for 5 dates in 2015 and 2016 using Teledyne Rio Grande 600 kHz acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCP). The data were georeferenced with differential Dlobal Positioning System (GPS) receivers with submeter accuracy. These velocity data were collected in cooperation with the US Army Corps of Engineers, Chicago District. The U.S. Geological Survey collected groundwater samples from 71 domestic wells and 4 springs in Nevada, Yuba, Sierra, and Placer Counties, California in 2015-2016. The sites were sampled for the Yuba and Bear Watersheds Shallow Aquifer Study Unit of the California State Water Resources Control Board Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment (GAMA) Program Priority Basin Project’s assessment of the quality of groundwater resources used for domestic drinking water supply. Domestic wells commonly are screened at shallower depths than are public-supply wells. These data files include georeferenced water-quality data with associated time stamps (Central Standard Time) for basic water-quality parameters as measured by a towed multiparameter sonde (YSI 6920 sonde) from a manned boat in the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal. Data were collected on February 25-27, 2010, and again on March 2-3, 2010. The data collected in February 2010 had the sonde on a fixed mount about 1 foot below the surface. The data collected in March 2010 had the sonde on a towed cable about 7-9 feet below the surface. All data have been edited and reviewed. Omitted data have been flagged with a data value of -9999 in the data files.

On August 31, 2015, USGS Illinois Water Science Center staff deployed a 2000 kHz side-looking acoustic Doppler velocity meter (ADVM) in the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal (CSSC) at the Electric Dispersal Barrier System (EDBS). These data were collected as a fully loaded commercial barge tow traversed the EDBS and passed the ADVM three times, and as several smaller vessels and an unloaded barge tow passed the ADVM. The ADVM was mounted to a rigid 2-inch PVC pipe in compliance with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) operational safety protocols for working in or near the EDBS. Streamflow and phosphorus concentrations were monitored in the Assabet River in central Massachusetts in order to evaluate concentrations and loads in the river before, during, and after changes in the amount of total phosphorus that was discharged to the river from three wastewater-treatment plants. At four locations the U.S. Geological Survey collected weekly flow-proportional, composite samples of water from the Assabet River for analysis of concentrations of total phosphorus and orthophosphate. This data set presents the lithologic interpretation of rock cores from boreholes 83BR-89BR collected from the mudstone aquifer underlying the Naval Air Warfare Center (NAWC), West Trenton, NJ. Continuous core from these boreholes was collected and visually interpreted to identify characteristics of the depositional environment of the mudstone. Three types of mudstone were identified: a black-fissile mudstone (BLK-FIS); a gray-laminated mudstone (GRY-LAM); and a gray massive mudstone (GRY-MAS). Geomorphology monitoring sites at 15 locations along the Roanoke River in Salem and Roanoke, Virginia, represented riffle or pool habitats and were designed to facilitate repeated measuring at the same cross section over time. Local bench marks were installed at each site to provide both horizontal and vertical control. The ascii grids associated with this data release are predicted distributions of continuous pH at the drinking water depth zones in the groundwater of Central Valley, California. The two prediction grids produced in this work represent predicted pH at the domestic supply and public supply drinking water depths, respectively and are bound by the alluvial boundary that defines the Central Valley. Fish in Northern Great Plains streams evolved to survive heat, cold, floods and drought; however changes in streamflow associated with long-term climate change may render some prairie streams uninhabitable for current fish species. We performed hourly monitoring of conditions at the Two Towers landslide located in northern California near the town of Zenia. Monitored conditions included rainfall, groundwater head, horizontal total stress, horizontal effective stress, vertical soil deformation, and subsurface displacement. Data were acquired November 11, 2014–July 22, 2017, except for times during which power failure occurred; data for these times are given as “NAN” (not a number). The Red River of the North (Red River) transports phosphorus from North Dakota, Minnesota, and South Dakota, to Manitoba, Canada, and eventually into Lake Winnipeg. Phosphorus load (or flux) is the amount of total phosphorus (TP) transported by the Red River. The effect of TP load on water quality is a concern, especially with respect to downstream eutrophication issues in Lake Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
