Bathymetric and topographic surveys were collected along an approximately 47-kilometer reach of the Colorado River beginning at the Pumphouse Recreation site and extending downstream to the USGS streamgage located near the Colorado River Road (Catamount) bridge. The surveys were collected using real-time kinematic Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers by USGS personnel during several time periods between May 13, 2021, through July 26, 2023, using a combination of sonar and wading techniques. This dataset is a categorical mapping of estimated mean building heights, by Census block group, in shapefile format for the conterminous United States. The data were derived from the NASA Shuttle Radar Topography Mission, which collected “first return” (top of canopy and buildings) radar data at 30-m resolution in February, 2000 aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavor. These data were processed here to estimate building heights nationally, and then aggregated to block group boundaries. The block groups were then categorized into six classes, ranging from “Low” to “Very High”, based on the mean and standard deviation breakpoints of the data. This dataset contains generalized lithologic classes (rocktypes) as reassigned from the USGS state geologic map compilation for the conterminous United States (Schweitzer, 2011). Lithology was classified into 12 generalized categories using the fields LITH62 and LITH62MINO available in Schweitzer (2011). Geospatial and tabular data associated with the generalized lithologic classes (rocktypes) are included in the data release. Two identical Radar Stage Sensors from Forest Technology Systems, were evaluated to determine if they are suitable for U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) hydrologic data collection. The sensors were evaluated in laboratory conditions to evaluate the distance accuracy of the sensor over the manufacturer’s specified operating temperatures and distance to water ranges. Laboratory results were compared to the manufacturer’s accuracy specification of ±0.007 foot (ft) and the USGS Office of Surface Water (OSW) policy requirement that water level sensors have a measurement uncertainty of no more than 0.01 ft or 0.20 percent of the indicated reading. This produced dataset includes spatially aggregated records of measurements and observations from public and private organizations across the Upper Missouri River Basin. For this dataset the Upper Missouri River Basin is defined as Hydrologic Unit Code 1002-1013, and includes the states of Montana, Wyoming, Utah, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Streamflow measurements are an essential part of understanding the relationship between streamflow permanence and climatic and physical factors. For the purpose of this investigation, all streamflow observations were identified as perennial, non-perennial, or pooled to be used in the PROSPER (PRObability of Streamflow PERmanence) model.

This dataset includes example data used for demonstration of the moisturEC program. This includes inverted electrical resistivity data, model resolution from the inversion, point moisture information, and conductivity-saturation calibration information. The data are from a field site in Coventry, CT outfitted with five, Decagon 5TE moisture probes, arranged along a 28 m transect at different depths. The data represent a slice in time after irrigating the soil for 12 hours.

In 2013 to 2015, 833 public supply wells in 15 Principal aquifers in the United States were sampled to identify which aquifers contained high methane concentrations (>1 mg/L) and determine the geologic, hydrologic, and geochemical conditions associated with high concentrations. This study represents the first national assessment of methane in aquifers used for public supply in the U.S. and, as such, advances the understanding of the occurrence and distribution of methane in groundwater nationally. Methane concentrations >1 and >10 mg/L occurred in 6.7 and 1.1% of the samples, respectively. High radium (Ra) concentrations in potable portions of the Cambrian-Ordovician (C-O) aquifer system were investigated using water-quality data and environmental tracers ( 3H, 3Hetrit, SF6 , 14C and 4Herad) of groundwater age from 80 public-supply wells (PSWs). Groundwater ages were estimated by calibration of tracers to lumped parameter models and ranged from modern (1 Myr) in the most downgradient, confined portions of the potable system. More than 80 and 40 percent of mean groundwater ages were older than 1000 and 50,000 yr, respectively. Chemical data from 43,334 wells were used to examine the role of land surface-soil-aquifer connections in producing elevated manganese concentrations (>300 µg/L) in United States (U.S.) groundwater. Elevated manganese and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentrations were associated with shallow water tables and organic-carbon rich soils, suggesting soil-derived DOC supported manganese reduction. Manganese and DOC concentrations were higher near rivers than farther from rivers, suggesting river-derived DOC also supported manganese reduction. The National Water Quality Network (NWQN) for Rivers and Streams includes 111 surface-water river and stream sites monitored by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Water Quality Program, National Water-Quality Assessment (NAWQA) Project. The NWQN includes 20 large river coastal sites, 41 large river inland sites, 30 wadeable stream reference sites, 10 wadeable stream urban sites, and 10 wadeable stream agricultural sites. The Stream Channel and Floodplain Metric Toolbox was developed to demonstrate the feasibility of mapping fluvial geomorphic features from high-resolution bare-earth elevation data. A Python toolbox for ArcGIS was built to calculate key metrics describing channel and floodplain geometry. The National Hydrogeologic Grid (NHG) dataset includes a raster and vector representation of 1-km cells defining a uniform grid that encompasses the continental United States. The value of each cell of the raster dataset corresponds to the 1-km cell number defined as 'cellnum' in the attributes of the vector data. This projects primary goal was to provide data on occurrence and abundance of SAV resources within the fresh to saline coastal waters of the northern Gulf of Mexico, and to relate these findings to key environmental variables. The data set provides the collected data from 2013, 2014 and 2015 on site location, discrete water quality, aquatic vegetation cover and biomass by species. The same 384 sites were collected each year, between June and September. This project was co-funded by the South Central Climate Adaptation Science Center and the Gulf Coast Prairie and the Gulf Coastal Plains and Ozarks Landscape Conservation Cooperatives. This projects primary goal was to provide data on biomass of potential seed resources located within shallow water coastal areas within fresh to saline coastal waters of the northern Gulf of Mexico. The data set provides biomass of seeds, by species or lowest practical taxon from 2013, 2014 and 2015 across 384 randomly selected sites located in shallow water coastal areas. This dataset is a 900 meter resolution raster representing the depth in meters at which the probability of oxic groundwater occurring is at least 50%, for the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Oxic groundwater was defined as containing O2 values >= 2 mg/L. The values range from 0-100 meters, with 100 representing all depths greater than 100. It was created in support of models which define the oxic/suboxic interface, which is important for determining pathways for nitrate transport in groundwater and in streams. The dataset was derived from a logistic regression of variables representing surficial geology, position in the flow system, and soil drainage.

A soil-water balance model (SWB) was developed to estimate potential recharge and surface runoff for portions of the Cannon River drainage basin, southeast Minnesota, for the period 1995 through 2010. This product is a series of six national 1-kilometer (km) raster datasets, for five year intervals between 1985 and 2010, representing USGS Water Use "Total Fresh Water Withdrawals", allocated to areas of land use representing anthropogenic use. Pixels representing anthropogenic uses (urban, agriculture, and mining land uses) are derived from the NAWQA Wall-to-wall Anthropogenic Land-use Trends (NWALT) product (Falcone, 2015), a series of decadal national raster datasets for the period 1974-2012. The raster datasets created here are intended as a source of information for estimating water use for watersheds, at the scale of HUC12 watersheds and coarser. Units are millions of gallons per day (mgd) per square km.
