The Mohorovicic discontinuity or 'Moho' maps the boundary between the earth's crust and mantle and is defined by an abrupt change in seismic velocity due to changes in the density of rocks between the crust and mantle. GeoTIFF grids that map depth to Moho (crustal thickness) for the United States and Canada, and for Australia are provided in this report and were used as evidential layers in developing prospectivity models for basin-hosted Pb-Zn mineralization (Lawley and others, 2022). This data release is part of a 2016-2019 study on the geology, geochemistry and geochronology of ore systems in the eastern Yukon-Tanana Upland region, Alaska. Whole rock chemistry was conducted on 185 samples, mostly from Au prospects, with lesser samples from porphyry Cu prospects. Geographically, most samples are from gold prospects near the Pogo Au mine and east to Black Mountain in the Big Delta quadrangle. Fewer samples are from prospects in the Eagle and Tanacross Quadrangles. Samples were submitted to the USGS contract laboratory and analyzed for select trace elements and gold. This dataset accompanies the planned publication “Mantle Melting in Regions of Thick Continental Lithosphere-Examples from Late Cretaceous and Younger Volcanic Rocks, Southern Rocky Mountains, Colorado” in the journal Geosphere. The dataset includes 40Ar/39Ar data for 19 samples from the Rabbit Ears volcanic field and from the Elkhead Mountains in northcentral Colorado, USA. Samples were collected from this area by James Mize (University of Colorado, Boulder), Lang Farmer (University of Colorado, Boulder), and Michael Cosca (USGS) with helpful input about sampling locations by Kenzie Turner (USGS). The samples were analyzed in the Denver Argon Geochronology Laboratory at the USGS from September, 2013 to July, 2017.

This dataset is a compilation of samples collected from draining mine adits, including water and mineral precipitates, from several mines in California and Colorado. The Golinsky, Copper Bluff, and Afterthought Mines (located in northern California) and the Gold King mine (located in southern Colorado) have historically operated to recover metals including copper, lead, zinc, gold, silver and other resources (Albers and Robertson, 1961; USGS, 2005; USEPA, 2015). Detailed geologic mapping and sample collection was conducted in rare bedrock exposures of the Denali fault zone during the summer months of 2013, 2014, and 2015 by the U.S. Geological Survey. Data include measurements of structural geologic orientations and documentation of fault zone and host rock characteristics. Representative samples were selected for measurements of fault vein attributes and electron backscatter diffraction studies to characterize deformation mechanisms. All station locations, pertinent sample information, and associated data are included in this data release.

The geochemical data included here were generated as part of a Technical Assistance Agreement between the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and Rio Tinto Exploration based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Beginning in November of 2015, we began a project to reanalyze up to 60,000 archived sample splits originally collected as part of the National Uranium Resource Evaluation (NURE) Hydrogeochemical and Stream Sediment Reconnaissance (HSSR) project from selected areas in Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah. This data release includes 40Ar/39Ar intercalibration data from the U.S. Geological Survey for neutron fluence monitors HD-B1 (Heidelberg biotite) and FCs (Fish Canyon sanidine). Potassium-bearing mineral grains were analyzed by argon geochronology at the U.S. Geological Survey Argon Geochronology Laboratory in Denver, Colorado. These data provide intercalibration information between the two fluence monitors.

This USGS data release evaluates the impact of historical mining sites on water quality using samples collected in late July 2021 from Big Creek tributaries Coin Creek, Smith Creek, and Monumental Creek in Valley County, Idaho. These data were collected to support a fisheries mining impact assessment in the Middle Fork Salmon River. Specific conductance, pH, and stream temperature were measured in the field. Analyses include major cations and anions, alkalinity, trace metals, total mercury, and methylmercury.

This data release includes laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICPMS) U-Pb zircon geochronology data to determine the ages of Challis igneous rocks in the Thunder Mountain volcanic field and dikes west of the volcanic field, especially in and near the Stibnite-Yellow Pine mining district, ID. These efforts were made to help understand the stratigraphy and lithologic characteristics of the Challis igneous rocks by determining their absolute ages.

This dataset accompanies planned publication 'Near-Ridge Magmatism Constrained Using 40Ar/39Ar Dating of Enriched MORB from the 8°20' N Seamount Chain'. The Ar/Ar data are for samples that record the volcanic history of the area. The geochronology provides time constraints for the eruption of rocks studied in the manuscript. Samples were collected from the 8°20' N seamount chain by Molly Anderson (University of Florida), who sent them to the USGS Denver Argon Geochronology Laboratory for Ar/Ar analysis.

This data release includes laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICPMS) U-Pb zircon geochronology data from four samples collected from fault-bounded bedrock units in northwestern Oregon. Samples were collected from a paleoseismic trench excavated across the Scoggins Valley strand of the Gales Creek Fault and nearby quarry. The trench is located on a ridge top saddle on the Scoggins Creek-Tualatin River divide, where it crosses a lidar scarp trending 300°, up to the east, with suggestion of dextral slip.
