A “gateway” using Data Basin technology has been developed to serve the data integration, collaboration and outreach needs of the NPLCC. The gateway will continue to be a customized interface of the Data Basin platform that includes special branding, curation of spatial content, and direct links to selected sites in support of projects funded by and for the NPLCC . Conservation Biology Institute will add to the “gateway” a spatial data visualization tool to showcase priority data from the Pacific Marine and Estuarine Fish Habitat Partnership.

The primary objective of the research is to develop a rule-based decision support system to predict the relative vulnerability of nearshore species to climate change. The approach is designed to be applicable to fishes and invertebrates with limited data by predicting risk from readily avialable data, including species’ biogeographic distributions and natural history attributes. By evaluating multiple species and climate stressors, the approach allows an assessment of climate vulnerability across habitat types and the impact of specific climate alterations as well as their cumulative impact. A website with a rule-based application for rockfish and crabs is availalble at http://cbrat.org/.

This report provides an assessment of climate change-related challenges, needs, and opportunities to advance landscape-scale conservation, climate change adaptation, and sustainable resource management in the North Pacific Landscape Conservation Cooperative (NPLCC) region. The NPLCC funded this report to inform NPLCC members, specifically the Science and Traditional Ecological Knowledge (S-TEK) Subcommittee, as they assess priorities and develop their 2013-2016 Strategy for Science and Traditional Ecological Knowledge. The report identifies conservation delivery, applied science, and science and data provision opportunities the NPLCC could consider to support resource managers, conservation practitioners, and researchers...

A combination of focus groups and usability tests were used to explore the needs and preferences of a variety of NPLCC stakeholders as regards data management platform content, format, and features. This information was used to inform NPLCC decisions about how best to meet needs not currently met by LC MAP through adjustments or enhancements to LC MAP itself or by connecting stakeholders with other platforms or portals.

This report provides a first-ever compilation of what is known—and not known—about climate change effects on marine and coastal ecosystems in the geographic extent of the North Pacific Landscape Conservation Cooperative (NPLCC). The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service funded this report to help inform members of the newly established NPLCC as they assess priorities and begin operations. Production of this report was guided by University of Washington’s Climate Impacts Group and information was drawn from more than 250 documents and more than 100 interviews. Information in this report focuses on the NPLCC region, which extends from Kenai Peninsula in southcentral Alaska to Bodega Bay in northern California west of the Cascade...

This report provides a compilation of what is known – and not known – about climate change effects on terrestrial ecosystems in the geographic extent of the North Pacific Landscape Conservation Cooperative (NPLCC). Where a broader regional context is needed, we also present information from surrounding areas. The NPLCC funded this report to help inform members of the NPLCC as they assess priorities and continue operations.

This project supported a bi-national workshop bringing together researchers and practitioners from across the range of the NPLCC. The workshop was hosted by Simon Fraser University in Greater Vancouver February 24-26, 2014 and furthered the work of the two previous workshops on transboundary data and analysis hosted by the Alaska Coastal Rainforest Center in Juneau.

The vulnerability of Pacific Lamprey to climate change will be evaluated by using an approach that relies on existing climate change model projections for stream conditions (i.e. hydrograph, temperatures, winter flood events) and lamprey sensitivity to environmental changes due to climate change.

The Western Governors Association has sponsored an assessment of crucial habitats which will be used for the evaluation of landscape-scale energy, land use, and transportation projects. At present, this assessment does not incorporate ecological integrity or stream-network connectivity into its assessment of aquatic habitats. This proposal will address in both Oregon and Washington states the need to incorporate ecological integrity and stream network connectivity into the Western Governors assessment of aquatic crucial habitats.FY2012Objectives:To incorporate ecological integrity and stream-network connectivity into the Western Governors assessment of aquatic crucial habitats for Oregon and Washington. The resulting...

The forum will have two major goals:. First, to share the successes and learnings of past LCC investments on the subjects of Traditional Ecological Knowledge, subsistence resources, and climate adaptation plans. Second, to identify gaps and future needs as this information becomes useful to inform land and water use planning across the region including the Great Northern LCC and the Great Basin LCC and ATNI.FY2017none

This project will create a targeted and easily understandable guide to tools that support landscape-level planning in the face of climate change for NPLCC partners. The guide will build on previous NPLCC research on decision support needs with an emphasis on tools currently in use in the region. A survey of NPLCC partners will discover who is currently using or planning to use tools in the region, tools they are using, how well these tools are meeting their needs, and regional and outside experts engaged in tool use. Additional tools research will provide information on tools not currently in use in the region that could also provide needed functionality.

This project used sound science and best management practices in the development and preparation of a coast redwoods for climate change workshop and related field trip involving multiple partners and others. The main purpose of the workshop was information exchange and shared knowledge on how best to manage coast redwoods for projected climate changes.

The Yurok Tribe Environmental Program (YTEP) received a grant in 2012 from the North PacificLandscape Conservation Cooperative (NPLCC) with partial funding from the Northwest Climate Science Center (NWCSC) to conduct a study entitled, “Utilizing Yurok Traditional Ecological Knowledge to Inform Climate Change Priorities”. This final report summarizes the objectives, methods and results of final analysis of work performed during the project period (October 2012–March 2014). The report also includes information that may be relevant to other tribes and agencies interested in balancing the cultural and proprietary considerations regarding the collection and use of culturally sensitive Traditional Ecological Knowledge...

he Transboundary Forest Science and Management Dialogue held Feb 24-26 in Vancouver was the third in the series of transboundary meetings and the first held in BC - the previous two were hosted in Juneau, AK by the USDA Forest Service, PNW Research Station, and the Alaska Coastal Rainforest Center (ACRC), University of Alaska Southeast. The overall goal of the invitational dialogue was to provide a forum for (ongoing) coordination and integration of data and scientific work across the north coastal temperate rainforest. Particularly, this dialogue strove to continue to: - Advance binational research projects that support landscape (or multi-level) sustainable resource management - Promote integration of science...

Existing stream temperature data were compiled from numerous federal, state, tribal, and private sources to develop an integrated regional database. Spatial statistical models for river networks were applied to these data to develop an accurate model that predicts stream temperature for all fish-bearing streams in the US portion of the GNLCC. Differences between model outputs for historic and future climate scenarios were used to assess spatial variation in the vulnerability of sensitive fish species across the GNLCC.FY2011Objectives: Develop a regional stream temperature model that incorporates important climate drivers, wildfire/riparian conditions, and geomorphic factors; Use the model to understand and predict...
