The dataset is associated with a project that examines effects of climate change on the federally endangered Karner blue butterfly (Lycaeides melissa samuelis) by subjecting different life stages of the Karner blue to both historically average temperature regimes and temperature regimes 2, 4, and 6 degrees Celsius above historic means. This dataset is composed of two spreadsheets: one for data collected in 2011, and the other for data collected in 2012. All experimental subjects were from an experimental colony of Karner blues maintained at the University of Notre Dame and derived from Karner blues collected, under USFWS permit, from Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore in 2010. Karner blues were subjected to the different...

The original distribution of the study species Physostegia correllii included freshwater floodplains of large rivers in the southcentral U.S. (Colorado, Rio Grande, Mississippi). Experiments to determine the effects of shading on P. correllii were conducted using short-term shade cloth treatments (full sunlight vs. 30% shading for 2-3 weeks). Mean height and cover responses of individuals were determined in conservation gardens located in Lafayette, Louisiana. Physostegia correllii plants were grown in shaded environments for 2.5 weeks.
These data were developed to support an effort to understand how whooping cranes select stopover habitat in the presence of human infrastructure. Location and associated data came from whooping cranes (Grus americana) from the Aransas-Wood Buffalo Population, 2010–2016. We marked a sample of 57 whooping cranes with leg-mounted transmitters that acquired locations via the global positioning system (GPS) network and transmitted those data through the Argos satellite system. Cranes were captured either at their natal areas in and adjacent to Wood Buffalo National Park in Canada or at their southern terminus along the Texas Gulf Coast, USA. Data herein include 9,347 ground locations used by whooping cranes during migration...
We present two tabular data sets representing values to examine sources of variation in natal and breeding dispersal distances for piping plovers breeding in the Northern Great Plains from 2014-2019 focusing on four study areas: U.S. Alkali Wetlands, Lake Sakakawea, Garrison Reach of the Missouri River, and Lake Oahe. We included habitat variables, and conspecific densities in both datasets and include nest fates and mate fidelity in the breeding dispersal dataset.
Note: this data release has been superseded by version 2.0, available here: https://doi.org/10.5066/P9L1GPKI Data were collected as part of a long-term capture-recapture program to assess the status and dynamics of populations of two long-lived, federally endangered catostomids in Upper Klamath Lake, Oregon and Clear Lake Reservoir, California. Lost River suckers (LRS; Deltistes luxatus) and shortnose suckers (SNS; Chasmistes brevirostris) have been captured and tagged with passive integrated transponder (PIT) tags during their spawning migrations in each year since 1995.PIT tagged species were encountered in netting efforts, remote transceivers, and active scanning on bird colonies across the Upper Klamath River...

We present a tabular data set representing values used to evaluate hypotheses of breeding habitat selection for immigrants and returning Northern Great Plains piping plovers (Charadrius melodus) from 2014 – 2019. The associated manuscript uses network analysis approach to evaluate five hypotheses of habitat selection. In this approach breeding locations were nodes and successive year breeding attempts form the edges (immigration) and self-loops (fidelity). Included in the dataset are covariates of habitat amount, conspecific density, and habitat quality, as well as other fields used in the analysis. In addition, we include descriptive breeding location-specific metrics from the network graphs.

These datasets provide information on total plant cover, Normalized Difference Vegetation Index, and Antioch Dunes evening primrose (Oenothera deltoides subsp. howellii) abundance within grids across the subspecies' extant range in California. These data support the following publication: Jones, S.F., Kennedy, A., Freeman, C.M. et al. Intensity of grass invasion negatively correlated with population density and age structure of an endangered dune plant across its range. The North American freshwater mussel tribe Quadrulini has a suite of life history adaptations, however, the evolution of life histories in this group has yet to be explored using comparative phylogenetic methods. Here we provide the AHE DNA sequence alignment representing 27 species from the subfamily Ambleminae that was used to estimate a phylogenomic reconstruction of Quadrulini. Additionally, we provide a compilation of host use information and larval length and height measurements utilized to trace the evolution of life history characteristics, such as larval morphology and host attraction strategy. Phylogenetic trees are presented representing phylogenetic inference performed under Maximum Likelihood, Maximum...

EverSparrow is a spatially explicit Bayesian model of Cape Sable Seaside Sparrow (Ammospiza maritima mirabilis; CSSS) presence that quantifies the interdependent relationships between a range of environmental factors and CSSS presence. Using hydrologic conditions such as mean 4-year hydroperiod and maximum depth, fire occurrence history, and vegetation structure throughout the range of CSSS, EverSparrow provides weekly probabilities of CSSS presence on a 400 x 400 m grid. Here we provide the modeling scripts used to develop EverSparrow (including the frequentist model developed and included in the ensemble model), the validation scripts, a script to run the EverSparrow model and create predicted surfaces of CSSS...

We used genome-wide single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) data and capture-mark-recapture methods to evaluate the genetic diversity and demography within seven focal sites of the endangered San Francisco gartersnake (Thamnophis sirtalis tetrataenia). As Thamnophis sirtalis tetrataenia is listed as endangered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), sensitive location information can be made available upon request by contacting Brian J. Halstead and/or Amy G. Vandergast.

Data presented are results of surveys and monitoring in 2017 for Southwestern Willow Flycatcher (Empidonax traillii extimus) in San Diego County, California. Surveys were conducted at locations along the San Luis Rey, Sweetwater, and Tijuana Rivers, and nest monitoring was performed at three locations along the San Luis Rey River downstream of Lake Henshaw (Cleveland National Forest, Rey River Ranch, Vista Irrigation District). Surveys were conducted along multiple sections of the river where permission to access properties could be obtained. Locations were surveyed using a standardized protocol three to four times between 15 May and 31 July. The number, age (adult or juvenile), sex, banding status (color banded...

This dataset presents four tabular data files that evaluate the effect of predator exclosures around piping plover (Charadrius melodus) nests on plover nest, chick, within-season, and annual adult survival. During 2014-2016, we designed an experiment to examine nest (n = 418), chick (n = 453), and adult (n = 367) survival at alkaline wetlands of the Northern Great Plains. Alkaline wetlands were divided between treatment wetlands and control wetlands (no exclosures placed anywhere on wetland). Field crews aimed to place predator exclosures around half of all plover nests found resulting in three treatment types: uncaged nest on control wetland, uncaged nest on treatment wetland, and caged nest on treatment wetland....
This habitat model was developed to identify suitable habitat for the federally-endangered least Bell’s vireo (Vireo bellii pusillus) across its current and historic range in California. The vireo disappeared from most of its range by the 1980s, remaining only in small populations in southern California. Habitat protection and management since the mid-1980s has led to an increase in southern California vireo populations with small numbers of birds recently expanding into the historic range. Predictions from this model will be used to focus surveys in the historic range to determine where vireos are recolonizing and to track the status and distribution of populations over time. We used the Partitioned Mahalanobis...
