This dataset represents the North Atlantic LCC's ecoregion boundary. Landscape conservation cooperatives (LCCs) are conservation-science partnerships between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and other federal agencies, states, tribes, NGOs, universities and stakeholders within a geographically defined area. They inform resource management decisions to address national-scale stressors-including habitat fragmentation, genetic isolation, spread of invasive species, and water scarcity-all of which are accelerated by climate change.
Without reliable spatial data for wetland and riparian areas, it is impossible for land managers to accurately assess the distribution of critical aquatic habitats and model potential impacts caused by climate change. Wetlands in the Southern Rockies are particularly important for wildlife habitat, as they are often far more productive than the surrounding uplands. In addition, wetlands are an integral component of regional hydrologic cycles through their role in flood abatement, storm water retention, groundwater recharge, and water quality improvement.Colorados wetlands were mapped by the FWS early 1980 and in late 1990, and though the maps exist, they were created for print and most are not useful as digital...

Green infrastructure networks designed by The Conservation Fund for areas within the Mississippi River Basin. These green infrastructure networks were developed using the core-hub-corridor approach as follows. The building blocks of the network are “core areas” that contain well-functioning natural ecosystems that provide high-quality habitat for native plants and animals. By contrast, “hubs” are aggregations of core areas as well as nearby lands that contribute significantly to ecosystem services like clean water, flood control, carbon sequestration, and recreation opportunities. Finally, “corridors” are relatively linear features linking cores and hubs together, providing essential connectivity for animal, plant,...

Estimated number of breeding pairs of Sedge wren based on the amount of grass, trees, and/or hay in the landscape. Landscape scale varied from 1/4- to 2-mile radius depending on the species. Pair estimates were calculated for grass patches >=1 ha, extrapolated to 40-ac cells, then smoothed by averaging over a 1-mile radius. Models were based on point count surveys conducted in 2003-2005 throughout the Tallgrass Prairie Pothole Region. Point count locations were stratified by cover type, the amount of grass in the landscape, and USFWS Wetland Management District boundaries. Landcover data were derived from 2000 Thematic Mapper imagery. Grid values = number of breeding pairs per 30-m pixel.

Includes all values from "Sum - Conservation Focus Areas (2016)" as well as the number of implementation interests or priorities summed at the HU-8 level (Sum - Watershed Implementation Interests (2016)). Conservation focus areas include both those delineated at the state scale (e.g. Wildlife Action Plans) as well as regionally; compiled from state, federal, and NGO sources. Watershed implementation interests represent areas identified as a focus for investment to improve either water quality or aquatic habitat. Data was compiled from state, federal, regional, and non-governmental organizations including, but not limited to USDA-NRCS, USEPA, USFWS, Fish Habitat Partnerships, Gulf Hypoxia Task Force, and State Nutrient...

Despite the lack of surface flows, the Colorado River riparian corridor in Mexico has proven to be ecologically resilient. Floods in the 1980s and 90s in the region brought back large swaths of native riparian habitat, which still persist today in some areas along the river. Because the historic floodplain is extremely important for agricultural production and therefore the local economy, habitat maintenance must be integrated with continued utilization of lands and water for this purpose. The riparian, marsh, and open-water areas found in Reach 4 provide critical habitat for both migratory and resident riparian bird species. Due to its ecological importance, the riparian corridor and Reach 4 in particular have been...

Forest cores are derived by applying an inverse buffer (-100m) to forest patches to represent the area of contiguous interior forest habitat. Forest patches are defined as areas of contiguous natural cover bound by non-natural edge or linear fragmenting features (roads, railroads, transmission lines, natural gas pipelines). The following land cover types were selected from the 2006 National Land Cover Database (NLCD) to define “natural cover”: deciduous forest, coniferous forest, mixed [deciduous-coniferous] forest, scrub-shrub, woody wetland, and emergent wetland. Forest patches were delineated based on non-forest edge (from the NLCD) and the following linear fragmenting features:electric transmission lines (from...

Land managers have incorporated threats to biodiversity for nearly two decades, but very few efforts have included threats from future conditions and fewer still have assessed vulnerability to climate change. This project will address two themes: 1) providing foundational information about habitat fragmentation and connectivity and 2) identifying the degree of vulnerability of key habitats to climate change. For development of understanding broadextent, a landscape-level pattern of climate change is an important complement to approaches to estimate rangeshifts for certain key focal species. Ecological system types (i.e. coarsefilters) are widely used in conservation planning because they contain valuable resources...

Description of condition index value scores for estuarine tidal marsh along and within 10 km of the GCPO LCC Gulf Coast subgeography. A series of raster calculations were used in a dichotomous decision-based framework to compile a per-pixel draft condition index value at a 10 m resolution for GCPO estuarine tidal marsh based on the number of configuration and condition endpoints met within each marsh pixel. Pixels not identified as a estuarine marsh but that were identified as having the potential to be marsh were given a score of 1, provided the pixels were not classified as developed. Potential estuarine tidal marsh pixels were derived from a combination of potential estuarine tidal marsh classes in the Landfire...
