Data files for manuscript "Improving eDNA yield and inhibitor reduction through increased water volumes and modified multi-filter isolation techniques". These include the results of different treatments for inhibitor removal from a water sample and DNA yield quantities from such tests. Environmental DNA (eDNA) methods detect genetic material that is shed into the environment through skin cells and excrement by plants and animals. These methods are increasingly being applied to detect imperiled and invasive species for range assessment and occurrence estimates. To improve the recovery and detection of eDNA, we tested and optimized three basic protocols to 1) assess whether eDNA concentration increase in a linear...

These data provide estimates of abundance and measures of harvest pressure for five species (mallard, American green-winged teal, wood duck, ring-necked duck, and Common and Barrows' goldeneyes combined) of ducks breeding in the Atlantic Flyway of North America, 1998-2017. Abundance data are based on federal and state surveys encompassing southern Ontario, Quebec, and Maine south to Florida. Harvest rates are provided for those species with adequate band recovery data (mallard wood duck, green-winged teal), and absolute harvest is provided for those that do not (ring-necked duck, goldeneyes). Indices of harvest pressure are based on federal surveys. Also included are the number of wings of each species received...
We monitored nests from 1983 to 2016 during the crocodile nesting season (April through August) as part of a long-term American crocodile monitoring programs within Everglades National Park (ENP; since 1978) and Turkey Point Power Plant (TP; since 1983). Nests were located during April and May (egg laying period) and monitored from June to August (hatching period). During the hatching period, surveys for hatchlings were conducted nightly at TP by airboat and one to five nights per week by skiff, kayak, or portaboat within ENP. Hatch dates for all known nests within ENP and TP were determined when possible.
This dataset contains data on trapping methodology, turtle captures, and environmental variables from a trapping effort targeting alligator snapping turtles (Macrochelys temminckii) in south-central Louisiana in 2019.

This dataset contains four comma-delimited files collected to evaluate the utility of GPS biologging tags for studying the spatial ecology of large constricting snakes. The first file contains the dates that five Burmese pythons were deployed for tracking in Everglades National Park, FL. The second file contains the data from each of those five python GPS tags with all of the attempted GPS fixes and their result (success or fail). The third file contains deployment dates and true locations for seven GPS test-platforms deployed in Everglades National Park to assess the effect of habitat on fix success as well as accuracy and precision of the tags in situ. The final file contains the data from each of those seven...

This data contains one comma-delimited file with data collected from dive-logging satellite tags placed on loggerhead sea turtles in the Gulf of Mexico. Specifically, the file contains the turtle's platform transmitter terminal (PTT; satellite tag) number, the date and time (in UTC) of the dive data collected, the behavioral mode of the turtle on that date, and the dive data values. These values are identified by the column "bin_type_num" which includes the type of bin and what level, as well as "value", which includes either the number or percent of dives.

This study was initiated to provide baseline data and to determine the utility of stable isotope analysis to evaluate the foraging strategies of an opportunistic reptile predator. Stable isotope ratios of carbon and nitrogen were evaluated from multiple tissues from terrapin populations to determine spatial or temporal variations in resource use within mangrove habitats in Southern Florida. We sampled Diamondback terrapin (Malaclemys terrapin) and potential resources within mainland and island habitats, and evaluated their δ13C and δ15N values. We fit linear regression models to determine the best predictors of isotopic values for both terrapins and their prey, and SIBER analysis to examine terrapin isotopic niche...

This dataset provides the data associated with a 2015 project to examine factors affecting the occupancy of Gulf Coast Waterdogs along Bayou Lacombe, Saint Tammany Parish, Louisiana. Data include site locations and distance from headwaters, water data (pH, turbidity, salinity, and depth), and capture data from trap checks. For Necturus beyeri captures, the datatset provides the sex of captures and length and mass measurements. The dataset states whether eggs were visible in females, whether each animal was swabbed for disease and whether tissue was clipped for genetics.

West Indian manatees (Trichechus manatus) are separated into two allopatric subspecies: the Florida manatee (T. m. latirostris) and the Antillean manatee (T. m. manatus). In the winter of 2020-2021, an adult manatee was sighted off the coast of Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico, in areas where Antillean manatees are not typically seen. The individual had distinct watercraft scars on its body, which were matched using photo-identification to a known male Florida manatee (PE424) that had been repeatedly photographed in Florida since 1998. The data presented are the verified photo-documented sightings history of PE424 from Florida and Mexico.
This dataset contains cumulative threat data for several species of male sea turtles tagged with satellite tags between 2009 and 2020. It contains information on species, capture date, days during tracking spent in marine protected areas, shipping lanes, near the coast, near oil rigs, and within known fishing operations. This dataset thus allows estimation of threat levels from these anthropogenic pressures for sea turtles tagged in different study sites in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean.
