The Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) is a geodatabase that illustrates and describes public land ownership, management and conservation lands nationally, including voluntarily provided privately protected areas. The lands included in PAD-US are assigned conservation measures that qualify their intent to manage lands for the preservation of biological diversity and to other natural, recreational and cultural uses; managed for these purposes through legal or other effective means. The geodatabase includes: 1) Geographic boundaries of public land ownership and voluntarily provided private conservation lands (e.g., Nature Conservancy Preserves); 2) The combination land owner, land manager, management...
The dataset represents the work of multiple states and Federal agencies as part of the US Gap Analysis and LandFire programs. Multi-season satellite imagery (Landsat ETM+) from 1999-2001 were used in conjunction with digital elevation model (DEM) derived datasets (e.g. elevation, landform) to model natural and semi-natural vegetation. The minimum mapping unit for this dataset is approximately 1 acre. Landcover classes are drawn from NatureServe's Ecological System concept. Five-hundred and fourty-four land cover classes composed of 12 cultural and 532 Natural/Semi-natural types are described. Land cover classes were mapped with a variety of techniques including decision tree classifiers, terrian modeling, inductive...
This dataset is made up of features aggregated from Ecoregional Assessments as well as other planning methodologies used across The Nature Conservancy to identify areas of biodiversity significance and prioritize conservation action. More information about ecoregional assesments and other conservation planning methodologies is available at The Nature Conservancy's Conservation Gateway, the Ecoregional Assessment Status Tool (EAST), and at http://maps.tnc.org. The BLM has been granted permission from The Nature Conservancy to publish this dataset, which is a snapshot of the Ecoregional Portfolio dataset taken when the REA analysis was completed. Users are encouraged to request the most current dataset directly from...

A region polygon dataset categorizing land in terms of ecological significance and status of protection in the Mojave Basin and Range (MBR) Rapid Ecoregional Assessment. This dataset identifies lands that have been identified as ecologically significant to biodiveristy but not yet legally protected (Places I - Sites of High Biodiversity), lands that have some type of protection status, often federal or state (Places II - Specially Designated Areas of Ecological and/or Cultural Value), and lands that may be ecologically significant but are managed for multiple use (Places III – Other Managed Lands).
Subset of "Risk Model of Invasive Annual Grasses" - 15% category This dataset represents the location and class density of potential annual grass risk within the Central Great Basin and Mojave Basin Ecoregion for the 2010 time period. This model represent a composite of multiple inductive (Maximum Entropy) models of varying annual grass cover using non-spectral landscape variables. Input Variables: elevation, aspect, distance to fire, geology, distance to hydric soils, distance to intermitant streams, landform, ombrotype, distance to perrenial streams, soil pH, density of primary roads, density of secondary/local roads, percent sandy soil, slope, thermotype. Classification of Model 0-No/Low Risk 1- < 5% Cover Risk...

This dataset represents the location and class density of potential invasive Woody Riparian risk within the Central Great Basin and Mojave Basin Ecoregion for the 2010 time period. This model represent an inductive (Maximum Entropy) models of Tamarisk sp. and Russian Olive using non-spectral landscape variables. Input Variables: elevation, aspect, geology, distance to hydric soils, distance to intermitant streams, landform, ombrotype, distance to perrenial streams, soil pH, percent sandy soil, slope, thermotype.

Some of the SNK rasters intentionally do not align or have the same extent. These rasters were not snapped to a common raster per the authors' discretion. Please review selected rasters prior to use. These varying alignments are a result of the use of differing source data sets and all products derived from them. We recommend that users snap or align rasters as best suits their own projects. - A continuous grid dataset quantifying woody biomass (tons per acre) within 25 miles of communities in the Seward Peninsula – Nulato Hills – Kotzebue Lowlands (SNK) Rapid Ecoregional Assessment (REA).
Ecoregions denote areas of general similarity in ecosystems and in the type, quality, and quantity of environmental resources. They are designed to serve as a spatial framework for the research, assessment, management, and monitoring of ecosystems and ecosystem components. These general purpose regions are critical for structuring and implementing ecosystem management strategies across federal agencies, state agencies, and nongovernment organizations that are responsible for different types of resources within the same geographical areas. The approach used to compile this map is based on the premise that ecological regions can be identified through the analysis of patterns of biotic and abiotic phenomena, including...

Note: A new version of these statistics based on PAD-US 2.0 will be made available in 2020 here. This summary of the Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) is created to provide land managers and decision makers with a general summary of management for conservation, natural resource management and recreation. Area statistics include total acreage, acres by managing agency and percent protection. These summaries are available for the nation and by state. The PAD-US 1.4 Combined feature class (with Marine Protected Areas removed) was modified to remove overlaps, avoiding overestimation in protected area statistic summaries. A Python scripted process prioritized overlapping designations (for example,...
Public access spatial analysis and statistic summaries of the Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) provide land managers and decision makers with a general assessment of public access across the nation, as represented by the Public Access Category (see Public Access Cat Definition sheet in Microsoft Excel downloads). Area statistics include total acreage, acres by managing agency, and percent access. These summaries are available for various units: National, State, Department of the Interior Region, Congressional District, County, Hydrologic Unit Code 12, EcoRegions I-IV, Urban Areas. Overlapping designation boundaries are intersected into fee simple lands in the Vector Analysis File ( https://www.sciencebase.gov/catalog/item/6064e0edd34eff1443414d6f...

The USGS Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) is the nation's inventory of protected areas, including public land and voluntarily provided private protected areas, identified as an A-16 National Geospatial Data Asset in the Cadastre Theme ( https://ngda-cadastre-geoplatform.hub.arcgis.com/ ). The PAD-US is an ongoing project with several published versions of a spatial database including areas dedicated to the preservation of biological diversity, and other natural (including extraction), recreational, or cultural uses, managed for these purposes through legal or other effective means. The database was originally designed to support biodiversity assessments; however, its scope expanded in recent...
