This data release is part of a larger data release including data collected in the pursuit of identifying pre- and post-colonial riparian ecosystems found throughout Anne Arundel County, Maryland, USA. A single raster file is included, and represents a topological classification of the entire county according to a hydrologically conditioned Digital Elevation Model (DEM). These data were generated through the use of r.geomorphon, a GRASS GIS toolkit, to classify local terrain conditions into one of ten distinct landforms called geomorphons.

This dataset was created to support the Washington D.C. StreamStats project funded by the Washington D.C. Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE). The dataset contains digital elevation model (DEM), flow direction and catchment layers that were conditioned using Washingtons D.C.’s stormwater network layer. The data are hosted online as a component of the USGS StreamStats web application (https://streamstats.usgs.gov), where users can interact with a map of Washington D.C.’s stormwater pipe system and National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) “best resolution” blue lines to delineate drainage basins that account for pipe flow. This project utilized 1-meter (high resolution) terrain products, which improves upon existing...

This data release includes electron 40Ar/39Ar collected at the U.S. Geological Survey for samples from the Day Nui Con Voi metamorphic massif, Vietnam. Rock samples were collected by Meng-Wan Yeh, Michael J. Kunk and Robert P Wintsch in 2011. Mineral separates were prepared and aliquots of amphibole, muscovite, phlogopite, biotite, and potassium feldspar were analyzed by the 40Ar/39Ar method at the U.S. Geological Survey Bascom ARgon Dating (BARD) Laboratory in Reston, Virginia. The 40Ar/39Ar data constrain the timing of exhumation of rocks within the massif.

A multivariate regression model was developed to predict zero-order oxygen reduction rates (mg/L/yr) in aquifers across the State of Wisconsin. The model used a combination of dissolved oxygen concentrations and mean groundwater ages estimated with sampled age tracers from wells in the U.S. Geological Survey National Water Information System and previously published project reports from state agencies and universities. The multivariate regression model was solved using the Microsoft Excel solver, with 461 wells used for training and 46 wells held-out for validation. A total of 31 predictor variables were used for model development (56 were tested), including basic well characteristics, soil properties, aquifer properties,...

The groundwater-level change maps for the Sparta-Memphis aquifer are constructed as a point-to-point comparison between wells measured in both 2011 and 2013. Wells not measured in both 2011 and 2013 were not included in the change maps construction. The 2011-2013 change map contains 261 corresponding wells. Groundwater-level differences were calculated by subtracting 2011 groundwater-level measurements, in ft below land surface from the 2013 groundwater-level measurements, in feet below land surface.

This geospatial dataset represents a prototype of a finer-scale representation of the principal aquifers of the United States, using four original principal aquifers in the Upper Midwest, United States, which were re-analyzed and condensed into three updated principal aquifers. The original principal aquifer definitions and extents were published in the Ground Water Atlas of the United States at a scale of 1:5,000,000. The updated version in this dataset are based on a reinterpretation of the original definitions using geologic data from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) State Geologic Map Compilation (v 1.1, 2017), which contains published state data at scales from 1:50,000 to 1:1,000,000. This shapefile includes...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and Air Force Civil Engineering Center (AFCEC) have entered into a cooperative agreement to refine the hydrogeology in the Northeast AFRL and Arroyos groundwater areas of the Air Force Research Laboratory of Edwards Air Force Base. As part of these efforts, two electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) surveys- AFRL9 and AFRL10- were collected in the vicinity of the Mound Fault identified by Cyr and Miller (2023) to better determine the position of these faults. Electrical resistivity tomography is a direct current geophysical method that is used to estimate the subsurface distribution of the electrical resistivity (measured in ohm-meters; ohm-m) of a material, and is based on the...

In 2016, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), drilled and constructed borehole USGS 144 (433021112552501) for stratigraphic framework analyses and water quality monitoring at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL), located in southeastern Idaho. Borehole USGS 144 was continuously cored from approximately 4 to 639 ft below land surface (BLS). The final construction depth, after reaming out cored section of the well, is 620 ft BLS. The USGS INL Project Office drilling team performed the core drilling operations and well construction between August 22, 2016, to December 7, 2016. The USGS collected geophysical data, daily drilling notes, and prepared detailed core...

In 2018, a large effusive eruption on the lower flank of Kīlauea Volcano was associated with collapse and subsidence of the summit caldera floor (Neal and others, 2019). The bottom of Halemaʻumaʻu, a crater nested within the summit caldera, subsided by more than 500 m. In July 2019, water was observed ponding on the deepest part of the Halemaʻumaʻu crater floor and the water rose and enlarged in area steadily over the next 16 months (Ingebritsen and others, 2020; Nadeau and others, 2020; Patrick and others, 2021). During the course of the rise, the lake surface appearance was highly dynamic and segmented, showing regions of variable color that changed from day to day (Nadeau and others, 2020). In June 2020 staff...
