View northward across the northwest flak of the Gunnison Plateau toward Mount Nebo (snowcapped mass in the upper left). The massive ridge that forms the upper right-hand corner of the picture is the crest of the Gunnison Plateau. The beds that occupy most of the picture are part of the Twin Creek limestone. Much of the area shown underlies the SW1/4, T. 15 S., R 1 E., Levan area. Juab County, Utah. Spring 1982.
Panorama with Image 587. View is north from Pennell Peak, Dark Canyon in background. The Horn is a laccolith extending north from Mount Pennell. Ragged Mountain is porphyry apparently lying upon the flat sandstone beds that surround its base but the strata are turned up steeply, locally even overturned, against a vertical contact around the porphyry. The prominent canyon on the south side of Mount Ellen is Slate Creek and the rim of the Bromide Basin forms its head. Garfield County, Utah. August, 1937.
