These shapefiles represent the spatial distribution of mean annual water-budget components, in inches, for the Island of Maui, Hawaii for a set of eight future climate and land-cover scenarios. The future climate conditions used in the water-budget analyses were derived from two end-of-century downscaled climate projections including (1) a projected future climate condition representative of phase 3 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP3) A1B 2080-99 scenario climate described in Zhang and others (2016a, 2016b) and (2) a projected future climate condition representative of phase 5 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP5) Representative Concentration Pathway 8.5 (RCP8.5) 2080-99 scenario...
Actual evapotranspiration (ETa) values estimated for specified areas including 1) total county areas; 2) potentially irrigated areas within each county; and 3) mapped extents of irrigated lands within each county provided by some states. These ETa estimates were provided to the USGS National Water Use Science Project by the USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center (Gabriel Senay and MacKenzie Friedrichs, written communication, 2/20/2017) and are based on 1-square kilometer resolution 2015 Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) satellite data analyzed through the operational Simplified Surface Energy Balance (SSEBop) model using methods of Senay and others (2013). Reference: Senay,...

File AET2RET_Ratios.csv lists the AET to RET (actual to reference evapotranspiration) ratios, or AET/RET, used to calculate actual evapotranspiration for each land cover type. The daily measured AET data collected at the ET stations were used to calculate the monthly totals for each month of the year. These monthly AET totals were then used to calculate the average AET/RET monthly ratios for the land cover of the ET station by dividing the AET rates by the RET rates obtained from the Florida ET network (http://fl.water.usgs.gov/et/; USGS, 2016). The land cover types represented in these data are forest, grass, marsh, open water, ridge, urban, and agriculture. The AET/RET ratios for these land cover types were presented...

The actual evapotranspiration (AET) annual rates provided in shapefiles AET_SJR_Basin_Cells are for 2 km by 2 km cells in basins in east-central and northeast Florida. The AET rates are presented in the shapefiles for two methods: the Simplified Surface Energy Balance operational (SSEBop) method and for the land-cover type (LC) method. The period of record is 2000 to 2016 for the LC-based method and from 2000 to 2017 for the SSEBop-based method. The SSEBop AET rates are based on a work by Senay and others (2013). The LC-based AET rates were calculated from the AET/RET ratios listed in file AET2RET_Ratios.csv and the annual reference ET rates from 2000 to 2016. A third method used to calculate annual average AET...

This dataset includes the following measurements made over a xeric tall grass prairie in the southwest portion of Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge in 2011 and 2012: 1) half hourly eddy covariance measurements of latent heat flux (evapotranspiration) and fluxes of carbon dioxide and sensible heat, and friction velocity (U star) 2) half hour averages of solar and net radiation; photosynthetically active radiation; air temperature and humidity; soil temperature, moisture, and heat flux; wind speed and direction; and half hour sums of precipitation. 3) approximately weekly measurements of vegetation including leaf area index, height of vegetation, dry and wet weights
This shapefile represents the spatial distribution of mean annual water-budget components, in inches, for the Island of Maui, Hawaii. The water-budget components in the shapefile were computed by a water-budget model for a scenario representative of average climate conditions (1978–2007 rainfall) and 2010 land cover, as described in USGS SIR 2014-5168. The model was developed for estimating groundwater recharge and other water-budget components for each subarea of the model. The model subareas were generated using Esri ArcGIS software by intersecting (merging) multiple spatial data sets that characterize the spatial distribution of rainfall, fog interception, irrigation, reference evapotranspiration, direct runoff,...
Annual actual evapotranspiration (ETa) rates in 55 basins in Florida and parts of Alabama and Georgia were evaluated for 2000-17 using the Operational Simplified Surface Energy Balance (SSEBop) model at about a one-square kilometer resolution (Sepúlveda, 2021). SSEBop ETa rates were bias corrected using ETa rates computed from weather observations at 24 micrometeorological evapotranspiration flux (MEF) stations (mETa), stratified by land-use type. Uncorrected and bias-corrected SSEBop ETa rates were evaluated by comparison with independent estimates based on a crop-coefficient method for generalized land-use types (luETa) and a water-balance method for each basin (wbETa). This metadata file summarizes a GIS shapefile...

The groundwater discharge area (GDA) in Tule and part of Sevier valley represents the area where discharge from evaporation by open water or bare soil and transpiration from phreatophytic plants exceeds the volume of water contributed by precipitation. The GDA was delineated during field reconnaissance of the study area using techniques similar to those used in previous studies throughout Nevada and eastern Utah.

This data set provides reference evapotranspiration (ETo) and actual evapotranspiration (ETa) rates calculated at 24 micrometeorological evapotranspiration flux (MEF) stations (mETa) in Florida for each month for which the station was in operation between 2000 to 2017 (Sepúlveda, 2021). The MEF station name, location, generalized land-use type, monthly and annual Operational Simplified Surface Energy Balance (SSEBop) ETa rates before and after bias corrections, monthly and annual reference ET rates (ETo) at each MEF station are also provided in addition to mETa rates. Ratios of monthly mETa to ETo rates were calculated for each generalized land-use type. Linear regressions of mETa minus SSEBop ETa rates, referred...
This is accompanying data produced for the study "Implications of Model Selection: Inter-Comparison of Publicly-Available, CONUS-Extent Hydrologic Component Estimates". These datasets were converted from their primary structures (rasters and shapefiles) to EPA Ecoregions Level I. Conversion was performed by averaging timestep layers via mean area weight to produce a single vector of monthly values for each ecoregion, for each of the following hydrologic cycle components: precipitation (P), actual evapotranspiration (AET), runoff (R), snow water equivalent (SWE), rootzone soil moisture in equivalent water depth (RZSME), and rootzone soil moisture in volumetric water content (RZSMV).

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has developed the PRObability of Streamflow PERmanence (PROSPER) model, a GIS raster-based empirical model that provides streamflow permanence probabilities (probabilistic predictions) of a stream channel having year-round flow for any unregulated and minimally-impaired stream channel in the Pacific Northwest region, U.S. The model provides annual predictions for 2004-2016 at a 30-m spatial resolution based on monthly or annually updated values of climatic conditions and static physiographic variables associated with the upstream basin. These values and variables, known as Continuous Parameter Grids, or CPGs, were used as the predictor variables in the model. The CPGs referenced...

The spatial extents of verified irrigated lands were compiled from various federal and state sources across the nation and combined into a single Geographic Information System (GIS) geodatabase for the purpose of model training and validation. In cooperation with U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), researchers at the University of Wisconsin (UW) generated a nation-wide map of irrigated lands using remote-sensing techniques that will be incorporated into future irrigation water-use models. The verified spatial data varies in scope, accuracy, and time period represented, but in general represents GIS coverages (polygons) of agricultural land irrigated for at least some period during 2002–17. Data from 14 states were provided...

This USGS data release, supporting USGS Scientific Investigations Report 2020-5075, Estimates of Groundwater Discharge by Evapotranspiration, Stump Spring and Hiko Springs, Clark County, Southern Nevada, 2016–18, consists of five datasets - Normalized Difference Vegetation Indexes (NDVI) and a mapped groundwater discharge areas (GDA) for two spring areas, and a two-class land cover classification for Stump Springs and the Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC) adjacent to Stump Springs. The mapped GDAs are the area within each spring’s riparian area where discharge from evaporation by open water or bare soil and transpiration from phreatophytic plants exceeds the volume of water contributed by precipitation....
This dataset, created in support of USGS Scientific Investigations Report 2020-5075, Estimates of Groundwater Discharge by Evapotranspiration, Stump Spring and Hiko Springs, Clark County, Nevada, 2016-18, represents a Normalized Difference Vegetation Index calculated for vegetated areas in the Hiko Springs groundwater discharge area. Vegetated areas within the GDA are composed of phreatophytic shrubs interspersed with xeric vegetation and bare soil. The GDA was delineated by visual interpretation of 1-meter National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) aerial imagery acquired in May of 2015. Areas of channel scour within the GDA resulting from a flood event in September 2015 were delineated from a 2016 1.84-meter...

The mean MSAVI image is based on two Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper (TM) scenes representing midsummer conditions in 2007 and 2008. MSAVI was calculated for each image which were then combined by calculating the mean for each pixel in the scenes. The resultant MSAVI image was used to estimate vegetation assemblages (ET units) within a mapped groundwater discharge area.
