The zip files attached below include the spatial data and symbology layers used to create the PAD-US 3.0 web services found on the PAD-US Viewer. These can be used to recreate the web services in applications that require the underlying spatial data. See the PAD-US Web Services page for direct access to service links and more information.

The Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) version 3.0 dataset was clipped to 56 State and Territorial boundaries to provide data downloads for areas of interest. The Census Bureau is the national steward for legally defined geographic area boundaries for State and Equivalent areas. The national sub-state geography geodatabase is updated annually and contains multiple layers reflecting selected geography, including state name and jurisdiction; this dataset is translated by USGS and used to standardize "State-Name" and improve boundary quality as a common reference for agencies contributing data for PAD-US. For more information about Census State boundaries see: https://www.census.gov/geographies/mapping-files/time-series/geo/tiger-geodatabase-file.html....

The Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) version 3.0 dataset was clipped to the 12 unified regional boundaries for the Department of the Interior (DOI) to provide data downloads for each of the regions. The unified regional boundaries are primarily based on a science-based approach to promote management efficiencies. The unified regions provide better management on an ecosystem basis to include critical components such as wildlife corridors, watersheds, and trail systems. For more information about the DOI regional boundaries see: https://www.doi.gov/employees/reorg/unified-regional-boundaries.

Spatial analysis and statistical summaries of the Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) provide land managers and decision makers with a general assessment of management intent for biodiversity protection, natural resource management, and recreation access across the nation. This data release presents results from statistical summaries of the PAD-US 2.1 protection status for various land unit boundaries (Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) 2.1 Summary Statistics by GAP Status Code) as well as summaries of public access status (Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) 2.1 Summary Statistics by Public Access Category), provided in Microsoft Excel readable workbooks,...

PAD-US poster maps are available to increase awareness of PAD-US and aid user interpretation. The maps provide a general overview of management, not ownership, as Federal and other designated areas may overlap state, private, and other inholdings. The maps include U.S. States only (not Territories) based on the PAD-US 3.0 Combined Proclamation (Tribal areas and military lands are provided for context), Marine, Fee, Designation, Easement feature class, published by the USGS Science Analytics and Synthesis (SAS), Gap Analysis Project (GAP). The Managers and Federal Managers maps illustrate the land or marine management agency. The Protection Status map depicts GAP Status Code (a measure of management intent to conserve...

NOTE: A more current version of the Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) is available: PAD-US 2.0 https://doi.org/10.5066/P955KPLE. The USGS Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) is the nation's inventory of protected areas, including public open space and voluntarily provided, private protected areas, identified as an A-16 National Geospatial Data Asset in the Cadastral Theme (http://www.fgdc.gov/ngda-reports/NGDA_Datasets.html). PAD-US is an ongoing project with several published versions of a spatial database of areas dedicated to the preservation of biological diversity, and other natural, recreational or cultural uses, managed for these purposes through legal or other effective...
