Collection includes hand-written or hand-typed historical scout tickets with information about Michigan oil and gas wells collected by the Michigan Geological Survey and archived at the Michigan Geological Repository for Research and Education, Department of Geosciences, Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo Michigan. Scout tickets are representative of over 7000 Michigan oil and gas wells.
Collection includes county, PLSS, Latitude, Longitude, operator, well number, sample type, formation, footages from and to, comments, author that cited the sample, and whether the well information has been scanned.
A bedrock topography and depth-to-bedrock maps of the Upper Peninsula
The Michigan Geological Survey received a donation of geolographs from multiple industry members (Jimmy Miles, Jack Mortensen, and others) . Most are from the 1970’s. The logs record the drill bit penetration rate through the rock as the well was drilled for oil/gas. The red line on the logs are the penetration rates. Footages are calculated and handwritten on the logs by the mudlogger. This information is helpful in observing which lithology the bit is drilling through according to the ease and short time vs more difficult and longer times of drilling through a formation.

This collection was donated by the family of a deceased Pure Oil Company consultant. These scout tickets show data from about 11,000 wells drilled in Michigan from the 1920s-1950s. Data includes well elevation, total depth, cores taken, lithology/formation descriptions, footages for pays, and some production data. Many of these wells are also represented by cuttings donated to MGS from another Michigan university.

This data is a summary of 695 analyses from 60 borehole test cores in the Eagle Mine area of the upper peninsula of Michigan.
Information on critical minerals in Michigan for the following: Aluminum, Cobalt, Graphite, Lithium, Niobium, Tantalum, Platinum Group, Tin, Titanium, and Tungsten.
Collection includes chromatographic analyses from drill cuttings and core chips from Michigan oil, and gas wells, archived by the Michigan Geological Survey at the Michigan Geological Repository for Research and Education, Department of Geosciences, Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo Michigan. Analytical data includes rock characteristics such as porosity and permeability, gas and fluid content (water and/or oil), and hydrocarbon fraction identification (C5-C26).
