High-significance paleontological samples, most are cataloged. Includes collections of trilobites, Ordovician echinoderms, plant fossils, crinoids, conodonts, brachiopods, fusulinids, mollusca, corals, Paleocene fossils, blastoids, and several miscellaneous collections. Includes the Worthen Type and Figured Collection (mid 1800s, see ISGS Circular 524), approximately 4000 mostly Pennsylvanian and Mississippian samples primarily collected by M. Weller in the 1930's, and approximately 100 generally small collections of type, figured, or numbered specimens were cataloged starting in the 1950's.

Oklahoma completion reports from first nine decades of the 1900s. 94 shelves plus 30 cabinets of completion forms for Oklahoma. Forms are sorted by section-township-range but are derived from several collections which have not been merged. It is no longer being added to; the Oklahoma Corporation Commission began to scan completion reports and make them available digitally.

Collection of well logs has been acquired over time from project materials, and includes donations from various companies as well as duplicate logs from the Department of Natural Resources. Significant numbers of water well logs are included in the collection (approximately 20% of the collection). This collection is not yet inventoried. Please contact the Louisiana Geological Survey to discuss access to the collection.

The Field Notes collection mainly consists of hand-written descriptions of outcrops, measured sections, gravel pits, and other geologic sites in Iowa. The majority of these notes were contained in paper files, organized by county. Pertinent information from the files was entered in the GeoSam database and associated documents were scanned and uploaded for public view.

This collection (known internally at Maryland Geological Survey as Component 6) consists of 214 high-altitude, black-and-white aerial photographs (210 unique records plus 4 duplicates). The photographs date from 1980-1983 and were primarily flown or acquired by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The photographs cover portions of Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. The counties in Maryland covered by these photographs include Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Cecil, Frederick, Harford, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George's, Queen Anne's, and Washington Counties. Although not printed on the photographs, MGS estimates that the scale of these aerial photographs is approximately 1:80,000. These photographs...

Rolls of seismic profiles obtained from the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay as part of projects funded by the U.S. Minerals Management Service (MMS) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), respectively. Rolls are either original thermal printer paper or photographic copies. In addition to the specified uses of the collection, another possible use is sand/gravel evaluation. This collection has not yet been fully inventoried or cataloged.

Collection includes 31 lithologic logs recorded in nine Maryland Coastal Plain counties plus one from the Virginia Coastal Plain. Records consist of paper strip with depth, sample description and cuttings glued to strip (logs). Collection includes approximately 20 Washington Gas Light Company lithologic logs (also includes geophysical logs) for a gas storage project in Prince George's County.

The Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology (NBMG) Mining District Files (also known as NVGEODEX) is a collection containing over 30,000 items consisting of about 150,000 pages of correspondence, reports, maps, assays, datasets, photographs, newspaper clippings, journal articles, company reports, and government publications. The media is paper, linen, vellum, mylar, cardboard, microfilm and fiche, and photographic paper. This database is the electronic index of the entire collection. Most of the items were scanned as TIFs and converted to PDFs for internet availability. Access is through the NBMG main website at http://www.nbmg.unr.edu, followed by clicking on 1). "Minerals & Energy", 2). "Mining", and 3). "Nevada Mining...

The Mineral Resources of Virginia (MRV) Program oversees the inventory of specific mineral occurrences, prospects, mines, quarries, and other mining and processing sites of base and precious metals, industrial minerals, and energy resources in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The resulting information is formatted for inclusion in the MRV database. The goal of the MRV Program is to establish and maintain a digital database of statewide mineral and energy resources information to serve the following purposes: Preserve key information about mineral occurrences, mines, prospects, oil and gas extraction sites, and mining-related processing sites in a digital archive; Support public safety and environmental investigations;...

A collection of well cuttings from the State of Indiana with a few from surrounding states. The well cuttings are filed in small envelopes identified with pertinent information and are stored in boxes in the basement of the Indiana Geological Survey. Each box has a file number which links it to other types of information. In addition to the archived cuttings, 80% of the cuttings are mounted on lithologic strip logs. The cuttings are glued on the strip log according to their correct depth. This gives the user the option to look at either the strip log or the actual well cuttings. There are 13,455 archived wells in the Indiana Geological Survey rock cuttings collection. This collection takes up approximately 15,000...

This collection of Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) documents consists of published and unpublished reports, memoranda, and maps related to mineral resource investigations and hydroelectric dam site geotechnical studies throughout the TVA region. They have been acquired as a result of the close association between TGS and TVA staff over many decades. Users please note that there are also additional unpublished TVA documents contained in the Tennessee Geological Survey Mineral Resources Collection. The documents are all available in digital format as Portable Document Format (PDF) files. High resolution tagged image format (tif) files are available for the large plates. The County Well Index database was initiated by MGS, and is now a collaborative effort of MGS and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). Much effort is committed to compile, add value, and distribute data from drilling done mostly by well contractors across the state. The MGS role is in categorization and correlation of materials intersected by drilling, as MDH administers well regulation. This GIS-based system contains basic information for over 540,000 wells drilled in Minnesota, and single-copy paper records are on file for about 100,000 additional sites. The entire well record including construction information such as casing, screen and pump information, hydrologic data, and descriptions of geologic materials...
