This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides water-quality data collected during 1-week and 2-week nutrient studies beginning on February 22, May 17, and July 26 located in the Caloosahatchee River at the S-79 water-control structure. For each study period, 12 fiberglass tanks were suspended in the river using three floating cradles with each cradle holding four tanks. Each tank was open to the atmosphere and closed to the river. The tanks were filled with native water during the first day of each study period. Four different treatment methods were represented within each cradle. For all three study periods, three of the four treatments remained constant: ammonium hydroxide, sodium phosphate dibasic...

The GIS shapefile and summary tables provide irrigated agricultural land-use for Hendry and Palm Beach Counties, Florida through a cooperative project between the U.S Geological Survey (USGS) and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS), Office of Agricultural Water Policy. Information provided in the shapefile includes the location of irrigated land field verified for 2019, crop type, irrigation system type, and primary water source used in Hendry and Palm Beach Counties, Florida. A map image of the shapefile is provided in the attachment.
The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with Broward County Environmental Planning and Resilience Division, has developed a groundwater/surface-water model to evaluate the response of the drainage infrastructure and groundwater system in Broward County to increases in sea level and potential changes in precipitation. The model was constructed using a modified version of MODFLOW-NWT, with the surface-water system represented using the Surface-Water Routing process and the Urban Runoff process. The surface-water drainage system within this newly developed model actively simulates the extensive canal network using level-pool routing and active structures representing gates, weirs, culverts, and pumps. Steady-state...
This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides spatial water-quality data collected from the Caloosahatchee River on June 21-22 and July 20, 2021, south Florida. Geo-referenced measurements of near surface water temperature, specific conductance, dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity, chlorophyll fluorescence, phycocyanin fluorescence, and fluorescence of dissolved organic matter were recorded at 20 second intervals and nitrate+nitrite as nitrogen was recorded at 5 to 60 second intervals during water-quality surveys in order to create high resolution water-quality maps of the study area.

Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) data were compiled for the biosynthesis genes of five toxins of interest produced by cyanobacteria as well as an internal control. Sample deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) were collected from 21 sites which includes 17 sites from Lake Okeechobee, and four sites from the Caloosahatchee River and the St. Lucie River. Samples were collected on a monthly basis from March 2019 through October 2021, provided water levels were high enough for a sample to be collected. Samples from Lake Okeechobee were collected by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) and samples from the Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie Rivers were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Environmental...

These data quantify components of the carbon cycle within Big Cypress National Preserve in Florida. Continuous data time-series include net ecosystem exchange of carbon dioxide, methanogenesis, and soil bulk density.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with Miami-Dade County, mapped the approximate inland extent of saltwater intrusion in eastern Miami-Dade County in 2018. This approximation required acquisition and compilation of relevant data collected by the organizations: Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority (FKAA), Florida Power & Light Company (FPL), MacVicar Consulting Inc., Miami-Dade County Regulatory and Economic Resources (MD-RER), the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), and the USGS. Data from the selected monitoring wells were entered into a geographic information system (GIS) for analysis and mapping. The approximate saltwater interface...
The dataset includes a table in comma delimited format of daily evapotranspiration (ET) from 1/1/2021 to 12/31/2021 from an ET station within the Blue Cypress Marsh Conservation Area, near Vero Beach, Florida. Evapotranspiration was estimated using eddy-covariance methods and missing sub-daily (30-minute) and daily ET records were gap-filled with a version of the Turc equation (Trajkovic and Kolakovic, 2009) that was regressed against observed values of eddy-covariance ET. The Turc equation performed well (r-squared value of 0.94 and 0.63 for daily and 30-minute values, respectively) for reproducing observed daily ET rates. Daily ET values estimated with the Turc equation are identified by a column with a "T" value...

Bias-corrected daily precipitation at 1-kilometer (km) scale is provided for Puerto Rico. The Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model was used by Bowden and others (2018) to dynamically downscale the Centre National de Recherches Meteorologiques-CERFACS (CNRM) model for the future projection period 2040–60. Total hourly precipitation data (convective plus non-convective) for the innnermost domain in Bowden and others (2018; their domain 3) was aggregated to a daily timestep and then bias-corrected using Multiplicative Quantile Delta Mapping (MQDM; Cannon and others, 2015) with Daymet v4 as the observational gridded precipitation dataset (Thornton and others, 2020). The bias-corrected daily precipitation data...

Seismic-reflection profiles were collected in the northern part of Lake Okeechobee as part of a study to refine the hydrogeology of the Floridan Aquifer System in the area. The dataset consists of eleven 2D lines and a one-square mile 3D survey. A total of 53 miles of 2D lines were collected on land, on canals, and on the lake. The 3D survey was completed in the north-central part of the lake. 2D lines were acquired between February and August 2020. The 3D survey was acquired in January 2021.

The study of Whiting Field Naval Air Station, Milton Florida requires numerical modeling of the groundwater system to determine the fate of contaminants released at the air station in previous decades. The MODFLOW-NWT modeling code (Niswonger and others, 2011) was applied for this purpose with field data defining a number of inputs including aquifer properties and timeseries. Lithologic logs were used to define aquifer material types and estimated hydraulic conductivities were redistributed based on these logs. Net recharge (precipitation minus evapotranspiration) is the primary flow input to the model and stream leakage is the primary flow output. The resulting model simulation has a grid spacing of 100 feet with...
