These data have been collected by a collaborative and coordinated research network, SPARCnet (Salamander Population and Adaptation Research Collaboration network). We collected these data to examine patterns in seasonal and latitudinal variation in population density. This data can be used to estimate local salamander biomass, correcting for imperfect detection, and then compare these to estimates of biomass for other vertebrate species in North America that are known to have out-sized roles in ecosystem processes.

An intrusion into Kīlauea’s upper East Rift Zone during June 17–19, 2007, during the 1983–2018 Pu‘u‘ō‘ō eruption, led to widespread ground cracking and a small (~1,525 m3) eruption on the northeast flank of the Kānenuiohamo cone, about 6 km upslope from the Pu‘u‘ō‘ō vent. Transmitted and induced very-low-frequency (VLF) magnetic fields were measured with a handheld VLF receiver along transects spanning the dike trace, and zones of ground cracking related to the intrusion were mapped. Freshwater fish are among the most vulnerable taxa to climate change globally but are generally understudied in tropical island ecosystems. Climate change is predicted to alter the intensity, frequency, and variability of extreme flow events on the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico. These changes may impact Caribbean native and non-native stream ecosystems and biota complex ways. We compiled an extensive dataset of native and non-native fish assemblages collected at 119 sites across Puerto Rico from 2005 to 2015. The storage assessment unit (SAU) is the fundamental unit used in the National Assessment of Geologic Carbon Dioxide Storage Resources project for the assessment of geologic CO2 storage resources. The SAU is shown here as a geographic boundary interpreted, defined, and mapped by the geologist responsible for the assessment interval. Individual SAUs are defined on the basis of common geologic and hydrologic characteristics. The resource that is assessed is the mass of CO2 that can be stored in the technically accessible pore volume of a storage formation. This data release contains three 10-meter resolution GeoTIFFs representing 10-meter (35-foot), 30-meter (100-foot) and 90-meter (300-foot) riparian buffer zones along shorelines, rivers, streams, and other lotic (flowing) water features. The layers are binary, where the value of each cell represents the presence or absence of the buffer zone. In addition, the data release contains shapefile layers that document the extent of corrections that were made to the data to address errors in the stream network (see processing steps section for more details). This data release contains site information and potential explanatory factor data for 1,899 groundwater sites. These sites were used to assess groundwater quality in aquifers used for domestic and public drinking water supply in the southeastern San Joaquin Valley. The southeastern San Joaquin Valley (SESJV) study unit consists of five study areas whose boundaries are defined by the eponymous California Department of Water Resources groundwater subbasins of the San Joaquin Valley groundwater basin: Madera-Chowchilla, Kings, Kaweah, Tule, and Tulare Lake. This data release provides model inputs and outputs for a model that predicts redox conditions in groundwater in the contiguous United States. Input variables describe the hydrology, soils, geology, and hydrologic position of groundwater sample locations. The data release accompanies a journal article that describes model development and applications (Tesoriero_and_others_2023).

This data release contains reference baselines for primarily open-ocean sandy beaches along the west coast of the United States (California, Oregon and Washington). The slopes were calculated while extracting shoreline position from lidar point cloud data collected between 2002 and 2011. The shoreline positions have been previously published, but the slopes have not. A reference baseline was defined and then evenly-spaced cross-shore beach transects were created. Then all data points within 1 meter of each transect were associated with each transect. The data support a study that surveyed the spatial distribution of Oncorhynchus mykiss and Cottus aleuticus eDNA in coastal streams of Big Sur, California, 2021-2022 following post-fire debris flows. The metadata represent qPCR quantification cycle (Cq) values for O. mykiss and C. aleuticus assays performed on water samples collected during June and July of 2021 and 2022 from the following streams: Big Creek, Mill Creek, Prewitt Creek, and Willow Creek. The metadata also includes the distance (meters) of each eDNA sample site from the stream mouth, volume of water (Liters) collected for eDNA analysis at each site, and the Y-intercept, slope, and R-squared value for each assay run.

This dataset represents 505 campsites along the Colorado River in Grand Canyon with associated debris flow probabilities calculated for approximately a 100-year period (Griffiths and others, 2004) and geomorphic attributes mapped by the U.S. Geological Survey, Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center (USGS-GCMRC) (Hadley and others, 2018). The Yǻyaguak (Mariana Swiftlet; Aerodramus bartschi) is an endangered cave-roosting species native to Guam and southern Mariana Islands, Micronesia. On May 24-25, 2023, Guam was hit by the category-4 Typhoon Mawar, which brought wide-spread destruction to the island. Approximately 6 weeks prior to the typhoon in April 2023 we conducted surveys of the three known colonies of Yǻyaguak at Mahlac, Maemong, and Fachi caves. This April 2023 pre-Mawar survey provided a baseline population estimate prior to Typhoon Mawar’s landfall. Airborne geophysical surveys were acquired in March 2018 and May 25 through August 7, 2021 using a helicopter-based platform. These surveys were collected along 10,706 line-kilometers (line-km) within selected areas of the Mississippi Alluvial Plain (MAP) and the Chicot Aquifer System in the southeastern United States. The airborne geophysical surveys include electromagnetic, magnetic, and radiometric sensor data collected in rivers and levees throughout the two areas to evaluate groundwater and surface-water interaction, riverine ecosystems, and infrastructure. The dataset contains data collected with an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) for a reach of the Missouri River at Sheepnose Bend downstream from Lexington, Missouri. Velocity data was collected using a TeleDyne Marine RD Instruments (Poway, California) Rio Grande Workhorse 600 kilohertz ADCP on June 4, 2020. Positioning used a Trimble Real-Time-Kinematic Global Navigation Satellite System. This data release consists of one shapefile with depth-averaged velocity magnitude and direction data and 40 text files that contain processed ascii velocity data exported from WinRIver II, Teledyne Marine RD Insturments (Poway, California) ADCP software.

Surface water samples (n = 33) were collected in fall of 2023 at stream sites in Scott County Iowa, USA and were analyzed for microbial source tracking markers by quantitative polymerase chain reaction at the Laboratory for Infectious Disease and the Environment (LIDE). Microbial source tracking markers identify fecal sources of contamination by detecting microbes that are specific to certain animals. Cooperators include Partners of Scott County Watersheds, Prairie Rivers of Iowa, and U.S. Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service.
