These data were collected as part of a field trial to test the effectiveness of a sylvatic plague vaccine (see Rocke et al., 2017 for details). Vaccine and control plots were selected randomly from the available pairs at each location. Baits containing Rhodamine B, a biomarker, were distributed at each plot. At least 1 week and no more than 2 months post-baiting each year, local collaborators captured, marked, and sampled prairie dogs. Hair and whisker samples were collected from up to 50 unique prairie dogs from each plot each year. Sex, age, weight, and the identity of all current-year and prior-year recaptures were recorded for each captured animal. In the laboratory, hair/whiskers were assessed for the presence...

Intracoelomic implantation of electronic tags has become a common method in fishery research, but rarely are fish examined by scientists after release to understand the extent that surgical incisions have healed. Walleye (Sander vitreus) are a valuable, highly-exploited fishery resource in the Laurentian Great Lakes. Here, fishery capture of walleye with internal acoustic transmitters combined with a high reward program provided multiple opportunities to examine photographs and quantify the status of surgical incisions. Walleye (n=926) from reef and river spawning populations in Lake Erie and Lake Huron were implanted with acoustic transmitters during spring spawning events from 2011 to 2016. Incisions were closed...

This topobathymetric digital elevation model (TBDEM) mosaic represents the topography and bathymetry for the Milwaukee River Estuary in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and adjacent terrestrial and Lake Michigan nearshore coastal areas. The TBDEM was produced in support of modeling and for developing a physical habitat framework to help with understanding the effects from multidirectional currents and seiche effects associated with the mixing of river flows with Lake Michigan backwater. The TBDEM mosaic is built off existing terrestrial, nearshore, and estuary frameworks developed for other areas around the Great Lakes and the Milwaukee River Harbor. Ranging from 2008-2015, land elevations derived from lidar and historic topographic...
Research and surveillance reports have documented a significant increase in coal workers' pneumoconiosis, including the most severe forms of progressive massive fibrosis and rapidly progressive pneumoconiosis in U.S. coal miners, particularly those in Appalachian coalfields. Several possible explanations for these observations include excessive exposures to total respirable dust, increased exposure to freshly fractured silica and silicates, or greater exposure to smaller particles that may be the result of changing mining practices. This dataset contains the chemical and morphological characteristics of particulate matter retrieved from lung tissue slices of historical and contemporary miners.

This dataset comprises a vector shapefile of the Puerto Rico geologic map from Bawiec et al. (1999), clipped to study areas in the Lares, Utuado, and Naranjito municipalities, with a modified basal contact of the Tertiary Lares Limestone (Tla) re-mapped using a lidar-derived digital elevation model (DEM) (USGS, 2018). The limestone unit of interest forms a prominent break in slope with the underlying geologic units, and this break in slope was mapped as the Tla basal contact. Only the southern contact of the Tla unit was modified. A model of the lower seismogenic depth distribution of earthquakes in the western United States was developed to support models for seismic hazard assessment that will be included in the 2023 USGS National Seismic Hazard Model. This data release presents a recalibration using the hypocentral depths of events M>1 from the Advanced National Seismic System Comprehensive Earthquake Catalog from 1980 to 2021. For higher precision and better resolution in the model, the data were supplemented with seismicity from southern California that was relocated by Hauksson and others (2012). Along the San Andreas Fault, the deepest seismogenic depths are located at 23 km around the Cholame segment, whereas the shallowest depths...
