Version 2.0 is now available. Please see new data release here: https://doi.org/10.5066/P9AB0TA7. A key input for probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) is geologic slip rate data. Yet, no single database exists to house all geologic slip rate data used in these calculations. Here, we compile all geologic slip rates that are reportedly used in U.S. National Seismic Hazard Map (NSHM) releases from 1996, 2002, 2007, 2008, and 2014. Although a new NSHM was released in 2018, no changes were made in geologic slip rate data used. The geologic slip rates are collated from existing NSHM reports and documentation, and no new data are reported herein. The geologic slip rates are coupled with the most up-to-date fault...

This dataset contains the areas of surficial sand and gravel with water-resource potential within the study area. The delineated areas are the largest areas of glaciofluvial sand and gravel with known or inferred thicknesses of saturated sand and gravel that might be sufficient for water supply. This digital dataset is the result of a study to investigate the hydrogeology of the Fairport-Lyons channel and inter-drumlin aquifer system and to map the extent of the glacial aquifers in southern Wayne County, New York; it supports USGS SIR 2021-5086, "Hydrogeology of aquifers within the Fairport-Lyons channel system and adjacent areas in Wayne, Ontario, and Seneca Counties, New York."

In 2011, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Town of Newfield and the Tompkins County Planning Department, began a study of the stratified-drift aquifers in the West Branch Cayuga Inlet and Fish Kill valleys in the Town of Newfield, Tompkins County, New York. The objective of this study was to characterize the hydrogeology and water quality of the stratified-drift aquifers in the West Branch Cayuga Inlet and Fish Kill valleys and produce a summary report of the findings. This dataset contains locations and unit labels of the surficial geologic units in West Branch Cayuga Inlet and Fish Kill Valleys, Newfield, Tompkins County, New York.

The U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the Tug Hill Commission, the Jefferson County Soil and Water Conservation District, the Oswego County Soil and Water Conservation District, and the Tug Hill Land Trust studied the northern and central parts of the Tug Hill glacial aquifer to help communities make sound decisions about the groundwater resource. This child item dataset contains locations of surface water temperature sites for the northern and central parts of the Tug Hill aquifer.

This child item dataset contains a shapefile that delineates ice-margin positions in the Owasco Inlet watershed and surrounding area. Ice positions mostly represent pauses during the final retreat of the ice sheet from the area. Ice-margin positions are delineated by moraines (mostly till) in upland areas and by ice-contact deposits in the valleys.

This document provides a summary of surface water-quality, streamflow, and groundwater data collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) within the Central Pine Barrens (CPB) Region of Suffolk County, New York. The data were collected in cooperation with the Central Pine Barrens Commission and the Town of Brookhaven under a five-year comprehensive water resources monitoring program. The surface water-quality data within the CPB for the 2018 water year (October 1, 2017 to September 30, 2018) includes data from the Carmans River and the Peconic River. The streams were sampled several times throughout the year at seven pre-determined locations. The Carmans River was sampled at five locations: 1) CARMANS RIVER AT...

From May of 2015 through September of 2018, water-quality data were collected at 178 locations from select tributaries, embayments, and nearshore lake locations along New York's Lake Ontario waterfront in support of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and the Lakewide Action Management Plan. These data include environmental, replicate, and blank samples of nutrients and suspended solids as well as field measurements of physical parameters (temperature, specific conductance, dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity, phycocyanin relative fluorescence, and chlorophyll relative fluorescence).

Global climate change is leading to large-scale shifts in species’ range limits. For example, rising winter temperatures are shifting the abundance and distributions of tropical, cold sensitive plant species towards higher latitudes. Coastal wetlands provide a prime example of such shifts, with tropical mangrove forests expanding into temperate salt marshes as winter warming alleviates past geographic limits set by cold intolerance. These rapid changes are dynamic and challenging to monitor, and uncertainty remains regarding the extent of mangrove expansion near poleward range limits. Here, we synthesized existing datasets and expert knowledge to assess the current (i.e., 2021) distribution of mangroves near dynamic...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is providing a polygon feature class showing the extent of the study area, the Binghamton East 1:24,000 quadrangle, located within south-central Broome County, New York, 2014-2021. The shapefile was created and intended for use with geographic information system (GIS) software. A companion report, USGS Scientific Investigations Report 2021-5026 (Van Hoesen and others, 2021; https://doi.org/10.3133/sir20215026) further describes data collection and map preparation.

This child item dataset contains a shapefile that delineates the overall extent of stratified drift (glacial) aquifers within the Owasco Inlet watershed. The extent includes coarse-grained (sand and gravel) deposits that may be unsaturated, but are contiguous with saturated deposits, and thus may act as aquifer recharge areas.
