This dataset describes the concentration and morphology of microplastics in the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway and Mississippi National River and Recreation Area, Wisconsin and Minnesota. Samples were collected during baseflow conditions at eight locations during the week of August 3-7, 2015. Four types of samples were collected: water surface, streambed sediment, smallmouth bass (Micropterus dolomieu), and threeridge mussels (Amblema plicata). Water surface samples were collected at all eight sites; other sample types were collected at only a subset of sites.
This data set archives all inputs, outputs and scripts needed to reproduce the findings of W.H. Farmer and R.M. Vogel in the 2016 Water Resources Research article entitled "On the Deterministic and Stochastic Use of Hydrologic Model". Input data includes observed streamflow values, in cubic feet per second, for 1225 streamgages over the period from 01 October 1980 through 30 September 2011. Estiamted streamflows, for the same streamgages and periods, is provided from a general calibration of the Precipitation Runoff Modeling System. This data release includes data processing scripts, data products, and associated metadata for a novel remote-sensing based approach to assess resilience of spring-dependent ecosystems to inter-annual changes in water availability. This approach uses remotely-sensed Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) to (1) delineate surface moisture zones (SMZs) in the vicinity of mapped springs in a semi-arid sage-steppe landscape, (2) derive quantitative indicators of the relative resilience of these SMZs to inter-annual changes in water availability, and (3) synthesize these indicators into an overall resilience score for each cluster of springs. The U.S. Geological Survey conducted a sedimentation survey of Lago Lucchetti, Yauco, Puerto Rico, in 2013–14 in cooperation with the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority. This dataset in shapefile format was generated from the survey data. The survey updated previous surveys, conducted in 2000, and provided accurate information regarding reservoir storage capacity and sedimentation rate using bathymetric techniques, coupling global positioning system and a depth sounder device. To better understand the diversity of lake responses to climate change and give managers tools to manage individual lakes, we modelled daily water temperature profiles for 10,774 lakes in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin for contemporary (1979-2015) and future (2020-2040 and 2080-2100) time periods with climate models based on the Representative Concentration Pathway 8.5, the worst-case emission scenario. The purpose of the well installation was to collect geologic, geophysical, and hydrologic data. Fish in Northern Great Plains streams evolved to survive heat, cold, floods and drought; however changes in streamflow associated with long-term climate change may render some prairie streams uninhabitable for current fish species. A 72-hour constant-discharge aquifer test was performed at the University of Georgia Stripling Irrigation Research Park, Mitchell County, Georgia, in order to assess the potential of the Claiborne aquifer as a source of water for irrigation supply. These data were collected using a 2 mHz TRDI StreamPro acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) in 2012 and a 1200 kHz Rio Grande ADCP in 2013, both deployed from a moving boat. The data were georeferenced with a Hemisphere Crescent A100 differential Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver with submeter accuracy.
