Sonic velocity and density well logs in the Central Coast Ranges in California were digitized by hand. These logs are available as scanned files (pdfs and tiffs) on the California Division of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources website and the data consist of interval transit times and bulk density measured downhole in oil and gas wells in the region. Sonic velocity data were also compiled from a number of sources. A summary table provides basic information of these wells, available on the California Division of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources website.

This data release provides access to an aeromagnetic survey over a part of northern California, an area that includes the cities of Portola, California, and Reno, Nevada. The survey extends across the northern part of the Sierra Nevada from Honey Lake in the north to Lake Tahoe in the south and over parts of the Sierra Nevada foothills. These data were acquired between March 3 and May 3, 2021, by EDCON-PRJ, Inc., working under contract to the U.S. Geological Survey. This data release contains gridded aeromagnetic data from a dataset that merges two aeromagnetic surveys of northeastern California. Data from the Alturas and Burney surveys were gridded and merged to provide a continuous, detailed aeromagnetic dataset of the region. The merged dataset was then corrected for the inclination of the Earth's magnetic field (reduced to pole or rtp); match-filtering of the merged rtp gridded dataset provides three dipole-equivalent source layers at 0.85 km (shallow), 3.28 km (medium), and 16.4 (deep) km. This digital data release contains geospatial geologic data compiled for northeastern California, a region predominantly covered by Quaternary and Neogene volcanic rocks. Geologic map data were compiled for the purposes of interpreting data from two aeromagnetic surveys that were flown for the area; geologic compilation focused on the existence and location of faults and volcanic features - those geologic elements considered most likely to produce a magnetic anomaly.
