Habitat selection studies can make important contributions to habitat prioritization efforts for species of conservation concern. We present a large-scale collaborative effort to develop habitat selection models for Greater Sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) across large landscapes (Wyoming, USA) and multiple seasons. Greater Sage-grouse are limited to western semi-arid landscapes in North America, range-wide population declines have been documented, and the species is currently listed a “warranted but precluded” from listing under the U.S. Endangered Species Act. Wyoming is predicted to remain a stronghold for Sage-grouse populations and contains approximately 37% of the remaining birds. We developed Resource...

GunnSageGrouseBroodArea is an ESRI SDE Feature Class that shows brooding areas of Gunnisons Sage Grouse (Centrocercus minimus) in Colorado. Brooding Areas are defined as areas supporting sage grouse broods. This generally includes wet areas such as meadows, springs, ponds and streams which all function as important brood rearing sites. These are mapped as a 200m buffer zone around the edges of such wet sites. This information was derived from field personnel. A variety of data capture techniques were used including drawing on mylar overlays at 1:50,000 scale USGS county mapsheets and implementation of the SmartBoard Interactive Whiteboard using stand-up, real-time digitizing at various scales (Cowardin, M., M. Flenner....
GrSageGrouseProductionArea is an ESRI SDE Feature Class showing those areas that would include the majority of important sage grouse nesting habitat. Mapped as a buffer zone of 4 miles around Active lek points from GrSageGrouseLeks and clipped to GrSageGrouseOverallRange. Flenner. March 2003. Maximizing Mapping Resources. GeoWorld 16(3):32-35). Dataset was acquired from a third party distributor who obtained it...

Thermokarst predisposition based on topography and soil ice content. Lows 10% and below, Highs 95% and above. Current distribution of the coastal plain moist tundra CE in the North Slope study area. Length of growing season (LOGS) for current and long-term future and change in LOGS clipped to the coastal plain moist tundra and wetlands CE distributions in the North Slope study area. Landscape condition modeled for current condition and two development scenarios, medium and high, clipped to the distribution of coastal plain moist tundra...

This data set is comprised of a potential distribution model for the McCown's longspur within the Northwestern Plains Ecoregion. Observations used in maxent were from 1990 - present and during the months of May - September. This layer was processed to remove open water and cultivated lands from the maxent output. It was reclassified to combine the maxent output for the low, moderate and optimal thresholds into one class (1).
This data set is comprised of a potential distribution model for the Black-tailed prairie dog within the Northwestern Plains Ecoregion. Observations used in maxent were from 1990 - present. This dataset was reclassed to show only the low, moderate and optimal maxent data based on the WYNDD thresholds.
This data was created by using a the wieghted overlay analysis of the KEAs.: Patch Size, MFRI, grassland with 1km, distance to anthrpogenic features, fragmentatino and distanct to other colonies. If the KEA was a binary analysis, the value was completed as a 1 or a 3. The KEAswere then weighted to reduce the importance of some of them and enhance the importance of others. For example, the RRT did not believe that the wildland fire frequency and the protected lands KEAs would provide accurate metrics for this assemblage. As for the order of ranking, for these two KEAs, the RRTindicated that the fire frequency would return a less accurate result than protected lands.
This data set is comprised of a potential distribution model for the ferruginous hawk within the Northwestern Plains Ecoregion. Observations used in maxent were from 1990 - present. This dataset was reclassed to show only the low, moderate and optimal maxent data based on the MT/Hirzel thresholds.
