This data release documents streambed sediment thickness in the Neversink watershed (NY) as determined by field observations and HVSR passive seismic measurements, and were collected as an extension of a previous data set collected in the same watershed (see Associated Items). These measurements were made between May 17, 2021 and May 21, 2021 using MOHO Tromino three-component seismometers (MOHO, S.R.L.). Seismic observations were converted to sediment thickness (depth to bedrock, meters) using the horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) method. Resonance frequencies were determined from time domain data using GRILLA (MOHO, S.R.L.) software and converted to inferred depth to bedrock for a range of possible...

Geophysical measurements were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) at two sites in Interior Alaska in 2019 and 2020 for the purposes of imaging permafrost structure and quantifying variations in subsurface moisture content in relation to thaw features. In September 2019, electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) and downhole nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data were used to quantify permafrost characteristics across the shorelines of Big Trail Lake, a thermokarst lake outside of Fairbanks, Alaska. Three 222 m ERT survey lines were collected perpendicular to the North, East, and South shorelines, and two 110 m lines were collected parallel to the southeast and northeast shorelines. Models of electrical resistivity...

This data release contains the forcings and outputs of 7-day ahead maximum water temperature forecasting models that made real-time predictions in the Delaware River Basin during 2021. The model is driven by weather forecasts and observed reservoir releases and produces maximum water temperature forecasts for the issue day (day 0) and 7 days into the future (days 1-7) at five sites. This data release captures the entire forecasting period that is reported in Zwart et al. 2022, and is an extension of a previous data release that contains all data needed to build these models but only extends to July 16, 2021 (Oliver et al. 2021). Additionally, this release contains a tidy version of the model predictions with paired...

This data release combines seven airborne thermal infrared (TIR) remote sensing data sets of stream temperature collected along the mainstem of the Middle Fork John Day River (MFJD) in Oregon from 1994 to 2003. Years 1994, 1995, 1996, 1998, and 2002 have single datasets. Year 2003 has two data sets. Most of the TIR data covered the upstream half of the MFJD mainstem between river km 50 and 110, while the 2002 profile covers the lower half starting at the confluence of the MFJD with the North Fork John Day River through river kilometer 64. All TIR data sets were collected by helicopter in an upstream direction in August with the intent of capturing data at or near the maximum summer daily stream temperature. Ground-truthing...

The Chicot aquifer system underlies an area of approximately 9,500 mi2 in southwestern Louisiana and is located within the Gulf Coastal Plain physiographic province. The region includes all or parts of 15 parishes -- Vernon, Rapides, Evangeline, Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Jefferson Davis, Acadia, St. Landry, Lafayette, St. Martin, Cameron, Iberia, Vermilion, and St. Mary. The Chicot aquifer system is a major source of groundwater for southwestern Louisiana, accounts for approximately 48 percent of all groundwater use in the State, and provides freshwater for public supply, industry, agriculture, and aquaculture (Collier and Sargent, 2018). Withdrawals of groundwater have created water-level gradients favorable...

The Mississippi River Valley alluvial aquifer (MRVA) overlies and is bounded by several regional aquifers that make up the Mississippi embayment aquifer system (MEAS) in the central United States. The MRVA, which consists of Quaternary alluvium, is one of the most heavily pumped aquifers in the nation and is a major source of groundwater for irrigation. Large groundwater-level declines in portions of the aquifer have raised concerns about sustainable use of this important resource. An aquifer-scale assessment of groundwater-age categories based on tritium concentrations was completed to better understand groundwater availability and susceptibility. The presence of tritium, a radioactive isotope of hydrogen, in a...

This data release provides the predictions from stream temperature models described in Chen et al. 2021. Briefly, various deep learning and process-guided deep learning models were built to test improved performance of stream temperature predictions below reservoirs in the Delaware River Basin. The spatial extent of predictions was restricted to streams above the Delaware River at Lordville, NY, and includes the West Branch of the Delaware River below Cannonsville Reservoir and the East Branch of the Delaware River below Pepacton Reservoir. Various model architectures, training schemes, and data assimilation methods were used to generate the table and figures in Chen et a.l (2021) and predictions of each model are...

As the climate warms and dry periods become more extreme, shallow groundwater discharge is generally becoming a less reliable source of streamflow while deep groundwater discharge remains a more resilient source. The implications of shifts in the relative balance of shallow and deep groundwater discharge sources are profound in gaining streams. These different sources exert critical controls on stream temperature and water quality as influenced by legacy groundwater contaminant transport. Groundwater discharge flux rates over time were used for the inference of source groundwater characteristics to prominent riverbank groundwater discharge faces along the mainstem Farmington River, CT USA. To estimate groundwater...
