Karst environments present many challenges to agencies and engineers attempting to work in these landscapes, particularly towards building infrastructure. The interconnectivity of karst hydrologic systems means that activities occurring on the surface of a karst landscape can have an impact on water quality and quantity. Additionally, soil thickness in karst landscape is often highly variable due to the presence of solutionally-enlarged fractures, joints, and openings at the soil-bedrock interface. Therefore, when planning infrastructure in karst terrains it is critical to do a thorough assessment to ensure that planned activities will not negatively impact the sensitive environment. In October 2020 Electric Resistivity...
This dataset contains the result of simulated daily emissions of methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) from the soils in Tidal Freshwater Forested Wetlands (TFFW) along the Waccamaw River (SC, USA) and the Savannah River (GA and SC, USA) under drought-induced saltwater intrusion using a process-driven biogeochemistry model.
The dataset includes whole-rock geochemistry, phenocryst/mineral trace element compositions, zircon U–Pb geochronology, and zircon in situ Lu–Hf isotopes for intrusions associated with the Oligocene Platoro caldera complex of the San Juan volcanic locus in Colorado features numerous exposed plutons, both within the caldera and outside its margins, enabling investigation of the timing and evolution of postcaldera magmatism. Intrusion and , coupled with new document distinct pulses of magma derived from different depths beneath the caldera complex. Fourteen intrusions, the Chiquito Peak Tuff, and the dacite of Fisher Gulch were dated, showing intrusive magmatism began after the 28.8 Ma-eruption of the Chiquito Peak...

The Wetland Reserve Program (WRP) is a voluntary program administered by the NRCS. It provides technical and financial assistance to private landowners and Tribes to restore, protect, and enhance wetlands in exchange for retiring eligible land from agriculture. For a site to be a wetland eligible for restoration, it must be in a zone with sustained or frequent flooding for a period of 7 consecutive days on average at least once every 2 years (a value termed the 7MQ2). This study calculated the 7MQ2 flows for all the U.S. Geological Survey streamgages within the selected study reaches. These flows were related to the stage discharge tables for each streamgage and a corresponding elevation was determined. By use of...

Karst hydrologic systems are important resources in the state of Tennessee both as drinking water resources and as centers for possible biological diversity. These systems are susceptible to contamination due to the inherent connectivity between surface water and groundwater systems in karst systems. A partnership between the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and Tennessee Department of Conservation (TDEC) was formed to investigate karst spring systems across the state utilizing fluorescent groundwater tracing, particularly in areas where these resources may be used as drinking water sources. In fall 2021, USGS and TDEC staff identified possible vulnerabilities or complexities that may exist within karst spring systems...
A biogeochemistry model was developed to examine plant gross primary productivity (GPP), net primary productivity (NPP), plant respiration, soil respiration, soil organic carbon sequestration rate and storage under scenarios of drought and normal conditions at Tidal Freshwater Forested Wetlands (TFFW) sites along the Waccamaw River and Savannah River in the Southeastern United States.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the Nature Conservancy developed the Sustainable Rivers Program (SRP) as a collaborative environmental flows program to identify, refine, and implement environmental strategies at select USACE dams. The SRP was introduced to the Willamette Basin, Oregon, in 2007 through a series of environmental flow workshops, which led to stakeholder generated environmental flow recommendations in the North Santiam, South Santiam, Santiam (Bach and others, 2013), McKenzie, South Fork McKenzie (Risley and others, 2010), and Middle Fork Willamette Rivers (Gregory and others, 2007, https://www.hec.usace.army.mil/sustainablerivers/). This data release is a compilation of the stakeholder-defined...

This data release contains the U.S. salient statistics and world production data extracted from the GEMSTONES data sheet of the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2023.
The dataset contains simulated net primary productivity (NPP) and greenhouse gas emissions (CH4, N2O, CO2) under a series of combinations of soil salinities (0.1, 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 psu) and water table depth (WTDs) (-30, -20, -10, -5, 0, 5, 10, 20, 30 cm) for tidal forest and oligohaline marsh sites along the Savannah River and Waccamaw River, USA.
