These data are bathymetry (river bottom elevation) in XYZ format, generated from the April 4-5, 2017, bathymetric survey of the Rolling Fork and Beech Fork near Boston, Kentucky. The bathymetry was collected from approximately 1.9 miles upstream from Kentucky State Highway 62 on the Beech Fork and approximately 1.5 miles upstream from Kentucky State Highway 62 on the Rolling Fork, to 2.6 miles downstream from Kentucky State Highway 62 on the Rolling Fork. In 2009, the Kentucky Water Science Center completed the Water Availability Tool for Environmental Resources (WATER-KY), which provided the ability to simulate streamflow for the period 1980-2000. This model integrated TOPMODEL (Beven and Kirkby, 1979) for pervious portions of the landscape with simulation of flow generated from impervious surfaces (USDA, 1986). Associated products included a flow-duration curve, load-duration curves when water-quality data were available, and general water balance. WATER-KY required a dedicated ArcGIS license with the Spatial Analyst extension, which made it difficult to use for some cooperators and limited integration with other hydrologic approaches. These data are bathymetry (river bottom elevation) in XYZ format (Easting, Northing, Elevation), generated from the July 24–25, 2023, and July 31, 2023, bathymetric survey of the Green River near Brownsville, Kentucky, from approximately 1.5 miles downstream from the Brownsville boat ramp to approximately 0.8 mile upstream from the former Green River Lock and Dam #6 site (3.8 miles total reach length). Hydrographic data were collected using an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) with an integrated global navigation satellite system (GNSS) smart antenna. The ADCP and GNSS antenna were mounted on a marine survey vessel, and data were collected as the survey vessel traversed the river along planned survey lines....

Digital flood-inundation maps were created for a 7.1-mile reach of the North Fork Kentucky River at Hazard, Kentucky. The flood-inundation maps, which can be accessed through the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Flood Inundation Mapping Science website at https://water.usgs.gov/osw/flood_inundation/, depict estimates of the areal extent and depth of flooding corresponding to selected water levels (stages) at the USGS streamgage on the North Fork Kentucky River at Hazard, Kentucky (USGS station number 03277500). These data are bathymetry (lake bottom elevation) in XYZ format, generated from the April 9–10, 2018, survey of Bourbon Lake and Williams Lake near Loretto, Kentucky. Bathymetric and topographic data were collected using an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) and a real-time kinematic global positioning system (GPS). Data were collected as the AUV traversed the lake along planned survey lines, and these data were supplemented by manual GPS shots in a few areas the AUV could not reach. Data collection software integrated and stored the depth and position data from the AUV in real time. Data processing required computer software to extract bathymetry data from the raw data files and to summarize and map the information.

During 2015-17, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service (USDA FS), carried out a study to characterize the hydrology and water chemistry in the Rock Creek and Cumberland River areas of the Daniel Boone National Forest. The study areas were historically mined for coal and have since been the focus of remediation efforts. The study examined the contributions of tributaries and gains/losses in both areas, and continuous water-quality and base flow estimates at Rock Creek, so the USDA FS can thoroughly evaluate the current conditions and move forward with well-informed remediation efforts.

The AUV was equipped with sensors for the continuous collection of water-quality measurements for dissolved oxygen, pH, specific conductance, temperature, turbidity, total chlorophyll, and blue-green algae concentrations. Robinson Forest, in eastern Kentucky, is a research forest owned and operated by the University of Kentucky (UK) since the 1920s. The Forest is situated in a portion of eastern Kentucky that has undergone extensive resource extraction, including silvaculture and both underground and surface mining of coal. This site has been used to evaluate hydrologic process, stream permanence, and the potential effect of different methods of mineland reclamation on hydrology. Hydrology was simulated using the Water Availability Tool for Environmental Resources.

Data collection, along with hydraulic and fluvial egg transport modeling, were completed along a 70.9-mile reach of the Ohio River between Markland Locks and Dam and McAlpine Locks and Dam. Data were collected during two surveys: October 27–November 4, 2016, and June 26–29, 2017.
