This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release for the geologic map of the Arlington quadrangle, Carbon County, Wyoming, is a Geologic Map Schema (GeMS, 2020)-compliant version of the printed geologic map published in USGS Geologic Map Quadrangle GQ-643 (Hyden and others, 1967). The database represents the geology for the 35,776-acre map plate at a publication scale of 1:24,000. References: Hyden, H.J., King, J.S., and Houston, R.S., 1967, Geologic map of the Arlington quadrangle, Carbon County, Wyoming: U.S. Geological Survey, Geologic Quadrangle Map GQ-643, scale 1:24,000; https://doi.org/10.3133/gq643. This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release presents a digital database of geospatially enabled vector layers and tabular data transcribed from the geologic map of the Lake Owen quadrangle, Albany County, Wyoming, which was originally published as U.S. Geological Survey Geologic Quadrangle Map GQ-1304 (Houston and Orback, 1976). The 7.5-minute Lake Owen quadrangle is located in southeastern Wyoming approximately 25 miles (40 kilometers) southwest of Laramie in the west-central interior of southern Albany County, and covers most of the southern extent of Sheep Mountain, the southeastern extent of Centennial Valley, and a portion of the eastern Medicine Bow Mountains. This relational geodatabase, with georeferenced...

Airborne magnetic data are provided here as part of the data release, 'Airborne magnetic and radiometric survey, Virginia and North Carolina Fall Zone, 2021.' This website includes the processed aeromagnetic data provided in an ascii .csv file and a geoTIFF image showing the total magnetic intensity. The contractor report is available on the parent page.

This dataset consists of 102 magnetotelluric (MT) stations collected in 2012-2014 in the Rio Grande Rift and southern Rocky Mountains. The U.S. Geological Survey acquired these data to improve regional conductivity models of the western United States. This work is in support of studies of the effect of lithospheric modification on electrical resistivity structure and tectonic evolution of the western United States.

This dataset includes the magnetotelluric (MT) sounding data collected in 2003 along a north-south profile west of Tooele, Utah. It is important to know whether major mining districts in the Northern Nevada Gold Province are underlain by rocks of the Archean Wyoming craton, which are known to contain orogenic gold deposits, or by accreted rocks of the Paleoproterozoic Mojave province. It is also important to know the location and orientation of the Archean/Proterozoic suture zone between these provinces as well as major basement structures within these terranes because they may influence subsequent patterns of sedimentation, deformation, magmatism, and hydrothermal activity. This study was funded by the U.S. Geological...

This data release provides descriptions of more than 60 mineral regions, mines, and mineral deposits within the United States and its territories that are reported to contain enrichments of cobalt (Co). To focus the scope of this data release, we report only mined deposits and exploration prospects with past production, or resource and reserve estimates of 1,000 metric tons or more of cobalt. Cobalt has diverse uses because of its properties, which include ferromagnetism, hardness, wear-resistance, low conductivity, and high melting point. The primary uses for cobalt are in rechargeable battery electrodes, and in superalloys used to make gas turbine engines. In 2017, the United States had a net import reliance...

This dataset contains results from electron microprobe analyses for expanded and unexpanded vermiculite samples. These data are provide for samples of vermiculite ore, expanded vermiculite insulation, horticultural products, aggregate, and packing materials derived from mines near Enoree, South Carolina; Libby, Montana; Louisa, Virginia; Palabora, South Africa; Jiangsu, China; and Llano, Texas. An ASCII text file of results is provided in comma-separated by value (csv) format. The file has the name “vermiculite_probe_microanalyses_data.csv”.

Reflectance data from HyMap™ were processed using the Material Identification and Characterization Algorithm (MICA), a module of the USGS PRISM (Processing Routines in IDL for Spectroscopic Measurements) software (Kokaly, 2011), programmed in Interactive Data Language (IDL; Harris Geospatial Solutions, Broomfield, Colorado). The HyMap reflectance data are provided and described in this data release. MICA identifies the spectrally predominant mineral(s) in each pixel of imaging spectrometer data by comparing continuum-removed spectral features in the pixel’s reflectance spectrum to continuum-removed absorption features in reference spectra of minerals, vegetation, water, and other materials. Linear continuum removal...
